I read that Shane has a cracked rib.I don't even know if this is accurate. Is it? If so that explains the "unShane" like throws. Going forward....is this going to be a continuing issue?

I am not as alarmed as some that we have suddenly reverted to the last 2 years, but this is a problem that we feared before the season in that Shane could use another year in the weight room. My expectations vary wildly going forward on whether Shane will be the QB or Swoopes. I think with Shane we will be fine....and without him we will struggle.

I remain optomistic that our defense will improve as the year goes on, but if that proves to not be the case then it won't much matter. At least with Shane we can be Tech like and will simply outscore some teams.

This is what I feared from his running but I think this one was due to the hard hit he took in the first and then another one where he slowly got up. Hopefully it's just soreness and not anything cracked.

He'll be fine, he came back in and played through it. A week off will work wonders for a rib. Then again next time you get hit that pain is coming right back.

Facebook. Solid source, eh? [/sarc]

Say what you know to be true. "I read speculation that maybe Shane..." or "I read on [link]this message board[/link], although I didn't trace the source, that Shane..."

Most of us, maybe all, make that mistake sometime. Not trying to crack your round ones, oldhorn.

I'm fairly sure "cracked rib" and "bruised rib" are used interchangeably. A rib can't truly be bruised. When they say that they are referring to a dark spot on an x-ray that is actually a bunch of tiny micro fractures. A broken rib that is displaced is a much bigger problem. Those are the kind that puncture lungs.

I'm not a doctor, this is just what I have gathered when trying to figure out why bones are sometimes referred to as being "bruised".

And you'd be wrong (all the boldface is incorrect). According to the Internet, bones can be bruised. Who knew? It's a very painful injury. It does not imply a fracture, but obviously doctors are going to look for a broken bone if they find a bruised bone. In sports, the patella (knee) and ribs are the bones most likely to become bruised.

Damn Hornsrule....I have over 2600 posts. If I had to stick to factual information I doubt I would have gotten to 100 by now.

It's on several boards already. The OP just asked a question regarding it. The second sentence of his post specifically said he wasn't sure if this true or not.

This is a free college football recruiting/fan message board. We don't have to vet posts.

Coach Hisler- "What's the matter?"
Johnny Walker- "I broke my dick, coach."
Coach Hisler- "Alright rub some dirt on it and get back in there..."

bones have blood in them. that's why when you break a bone the area gets dark and pools to a "low spot."

so you're both correct... i think

signed,
i kinda listened to the hot doctor when i broke my hand. wonder what she's up to now

maybe. Technical medical terms and the way injuries are described by reporters to fans, are different. A "bruised" bone is not the same as a "bruised" muscle. For most non medical professionals, we think of a broken rib as an actual break. A "bruised" bone is just a dark spot on a radiological image. I stand by the idea that people used "cracked" ribs as a non technical term for something less than an actual brake of a rib.
Anyway, my point is I would not freak out over reports of "cracked" ribs.

Wonder how James Saxton felt after being knocked out 4 times against Baylor or with a hurt knee and still ran a 100 yds felt or how many times Earl played with cracked ribs or banged up knee? These young guys not tough as the old ones were!

Wonder how Earl feels about it now...

Not that there is scientific proof or anything, but I wonder how Saxton felt in the later years of his life while dealing with dementia...

Knowing James and Earl they would have not traded 1 minute for their days playing football at Texas

Good points. I agree players were much tougher even going back more recently as the 80's and 90's, players were tougher in my opinion.

you know them? nice! can you get me an autograph?

hope you swing by to help earl wipe his ass since the degenerative effects of football have taken away the last 20 to 30 years of healthy living.

Sounds like a nothing ordeal people are running with. If its bruised, you'll know it pretty quick once he gets hit again.
