Can We Discuss The Hugely Disappointing Year For Yanks Abroad?

sorry if this was posted somewhere else but wanted to discuss how bad a turn in form the US players took in Europe this year:

Pulisic- can blame some of it on injuries but he couldn’t get much playing time for a bad Chelsea squad and not very productive when he did. Hopefully gets a good landing spot this summer (a recurring theme as we go thru the list).

Adams- arguably the best performance of the US guys but still can’t stay healthy for a full season. Injuries will ultimately be the reason he doesn’t reach full potential. Played very well for Leeds and they probably would have stayed in Prem if he was healthy all year. Hope he can find a good landing spot this summer.

McKennie- disaster loan to Leeds. I actually thought his play before the loan was solid but there is no defense for what he showed with Leeds. Needs a good landing spot to breathe some life back into his game.

Reyna- a little bit of a mixed bag. Had trouble getting regular pt for Dortmund but easy to excuse it since team was in contention when he came back from long injury absence. When he did play though, he was very productive. Right up until the end with two assists as a sub in the deciding game for the league championship. Next year should be big for him with Dortmund losing a few of their top guys.

Dest- arguably the biggest stock drop of any of our players. Not sure where the floor is for him.

Musah- lost his starting spot as the year went on. Quick red card as a sub in the last game was an apt summary of his disappointing season.

Robinson- great year and future is bright.

Aaronson- guy I was most exited to make the leap this year but showed he doesn’t belong in top league (yet).

Chris Richards- injury plagued season and completely stalled momentum.

Sargent- encouraging year with Norwich but not sure it was enough to get him back into top 5 league.

(Edit to add Tim Weah) Weah had a steady season once he settled in to LB/RB for Lile. Nice to see him find a way on the field but too bad it’s not at the position we hope he plays for USMNT.

there are others to discuss too like Pepi, Booth, Tillman, Scally (or maybe I’m missing others?) but the overalll core of the USMNT took a big step back this year. Lack of playing time and development has to be concerning for the next WC cycle (although at least we are already qualified). What’s also concerning is when will the next wave of young talent show up (not including Folarin here)? And where is the next group of guys getting signed in their teens at the top clubs?
