Can't Get Them All

Texas will be better when Stanfard goes back to being irrelevant. Isn't that the 2nd recruit we've lost to Stanfard? Go to the NFL David Shaw lol

Stanford makes sense in this case. Not all about football for this kid.

I don't fault the kid for going to Stanford. Being successful in life is much more important than being successful at a game.

Now that the final chip has fallen, we need to fill our true needs and shut this shit down and save those ships for 2018. I really hope we don't take anything above 15 in fact I'll be happy if we stop at 13. Outside of TE, and RB, we don't need to take anyone that is a reach.

(these next few lines are going to sound like sour grapes)

I was so happy when "Better call Sal" didn't pick Texas, he was an absolute reach and I have no doubt would have done as well at TE as Juco Quincy Vasser did at DE.

I have no idea what Tom Herman is seeing or not seeing on this roster, but damn if you think we are that devoid of talent to want to offer 15 TE with no talent, maybe it's time you adjusted your offense to the fact you won't have a TE.

BTW- 2018 is looking like a shit year in the state of Texas for offensive linemen, DTs, RBs, LBs, and DEs. About the only positions any good seem to be DBs and WRS. I have no read on QBs at this point, but I'm thinking we need to be damn good next year so we can go OOS for all our big uglies.

I have a feeling this is gonna be a theme for this offseason. I hope I am wrong but we are late on all of these recruits because of the staff change and we lost to Kansas .. we need to win 8 or 9 games next year to flip it

I can't fault Walker for choosing Stanford. As good of an education as Texas offers, it doesn't come close to a degree from Stanford. Good luck Walker!

A degree from Texas is a good as a degree from anywhere in the world. We can't have a 4.8% acceptance rate because of our mission as a state supported public school. Our student body is different because we can't turn down as many students. We have top notch facilities and top notch professors who do cutting edge research in multiple disciplines. The only thing Stanford has that we don't is proximity and access to the tech sector in Silicon Valley.

Texas couldn't have picked a worse year to suck.

I can't remember another year where there was so much top talent in this state. Little, Wilson, Browning, Hines, and Ukudah are all 5'star guys from Texas. Statistics say 3 out of the 5 will not pan out, but I couldn't venture a guess on any of them.

Next year won't be nearly as good, as this year was. It's a damn shame, but I would give up a group like this if Tom Herman turns into the next DKR for Texas and wins multiple national championships.

How can you say something like next year's class won't be good? Things will be much different about this time next year.

Agreed. This won't be a great class due to the short time Coach Herman has to work with in recruiting. Next year, I expect Texas to have a top 10 class.

I'm not talking about the Texas class of 2018 I'm talking about the talent level of Texas high school football for 2018. Outside of DBs and WRs this is the least talented group the state of Texas has ever produced. Marginal at best. Literally there are no impact Running backs, Linebackers, Defensive tackles or offensive linemen. It's pretty sad.

I really do hope Texas goes primarily out of state for those positions.

Class of 2017 feels a lot like the last decade of the SWC. Seems likely that not a single top 10 player in Texas will attend a Texas school. That is terrible. Not sure how to turn that around.

Last time it took the formation of the Big 12 to bring the players back. We have too many D1 schools in Texas which is watering down the talent pool. Does Ohio State deal with this? No. Michigan? No. We need to somehow reduce the number of D1 schools or P5 schools in Texas. It's easy for any P5 school in Texas to whip out the checkbook and get some players.

The state of College football in the state of Texas feels like the SWC in the 80's.
Best team is Aggsy, and they are marginal at best.
The wheels have fallen off the Texas program and just had to fire a crappy coach and bring in a new guy. Baylor is an outlaw program. No one else even registered.

Very said state of affairs.

As a Texas fan, if we have the right guy, all this can change in one year. We play in a shit conference but a conference that is still able to make it into the playoffs. All we have to do is win.

I'm sitting back looking at the things some of you guys written and i find it funny. The recruiting was going to suck. First off, Strong had another crappy year so that turn a few kids off BUT not all. The problem occurred when Strong was fired. I know you will eat this up but If you actually open your eyes and see, he had ties to alot of kids and I mean alot. Hell, if he was any other Big 12 coach and had losing season like he did. No one would attend unless he love everything UT. So kids will choose that but most choose for the coaches and playing time. Now, Herman can be the man to take us to the promise land but right now the top kids are not looking at him. When I see a coach offering 2 stars or below, I see it's a problem. He can find a D Foreman but he has to recruit.
Strong sucked at coaching and staff hiring but one thing he did do was RECRUIT.
Herman hasn't shown anything as for as coaching because he lost to some weak teams in the freaking AAC. He did an outstanding job of getting Oliver but he has to get 15 or more Olivers at UT to survive. Getting kids from little mushroom, tx or open sky, ok will not work. From everything I've read, has said he has total support. That will not be the issue, winning will be.
I just want everyone to fully support him, go to the games and wear UT all day

Bad post.

First, Mack handed Strong a well stocked recruiting class the year he was fired. However, Strong left Herman about half a recruiting class after Strong was fired for 3 consecutive losing seasons.

Second, Herman beat all 6 top 25 teams in Houston as the Head Coach. Has Strong beat 6 top 25 teams as a Head Coach yet? I doubt it.

I don't really care that Herman beat all 6 top 25 teams he played at Houston. It's a nice resume thing there is no doubt about that. But I don't think it means a ton. It should be easy for a team like Houston, Bosie, etc to get up for games against the big boys. Just as it is easy for the big boys to not take them seriously. It's one reason why the top non power 5 schools have trouble scheduling. There isn't much upside for the power 5 schools to play them.

Now if Herman goes in to LA next year and knocks off USC who will probably be a top 10 oppenet then I'll say yeah he owns ranked teams.

I would like to if seen Herrman own the AAC more than he did. If you look at Meyer, Peterson they really owned their conferences at Boise and Utah.

With that said Herman has a roster that is capable of 8 wins maybe more you get some breaks. If he does that the recruits will flow to Texas. Especially if A&M, Baylor, etc continues to struggle.

Who was the qb in that fully stocked cabinet?

Yeah that class that fell apart because of Texas dragging their feet on what to do with the head coach.

The problem occurred when Strong was fired.

Statistically, Strong was the worst coach to ever grace the field of DKR. The firing had to be done. I don't care what the results were for this recruiting cycle.

You might be right, but again, Strong wasn't going anywhere as a coach. Being able to recruit and sucking at coaching is akin to buying expensive sports cars because you have the money and crashing them because you can't drive worth a shit. At some point you just got to take his drivers license away.

When I see a coach offering 2 stars or below, I see it's a problem.

I see the same problem, there is no reason to offer a dude that can't compete on this level. I don't care who he is, you just need to move on and not take anyone, there is no reason to kill your depth with guys that are only worthy of walk on status.

Being able to win those games is proof enough that he can get the job done. Losing to the AAC teams tells me his team didn't take the lower level of talent too serious. I will be the first to call him out on this if it happens at Texas.

You should care, I'd rather have a coach that can beat the big boys than a coach that can beat the shit schools but loses to the big boys.

I fully expect him to win 9 games minimum next year, anything less and I'm going to question this hire as well.

SON- I would love to see a 9+ win season and the roster is there. Just hope the QB position can be a little better especially with Foreman being gone.
4MNCHAMPSHORN- Strong first year was a write off in my mind. When let go like 9 knuckleheads and had your starting QB and C done with season ending injuries was the start of a bad year.
