CDC has done so much good, and the right way. But that just makes Belmont's decision on travel for the band and probably other student participants even more baffling. The Athletic Department wanted the full Longhorn Band in Atlanta for the SEC Championship. It got them. They were put on a bus - 18 hours each way with a short turnaround. Many had to reschedule finals. Now the full band is expected back in Atlanta for the next playoff round. Again they are being put on busses for another 36-hour roundtrip. At a minimum it is uncaring. My personal opinion is it's also exploitive, particularly in consideration of the likely huge financial windwall of hosting an extra game in Austin for the playoffs. The band is frequently featured during the TV broadcasts and their playing is always present in the background and during The Eyes. I'm not saying pay them for the trip (though there is a good argument there). Just use a bit of the new money coming in from a successful season for flights to mimimize the amount of time disruption and discomfort - a second time - for these students who are giving so much effort and value-add to our playoff run.
