Check this out....

This is such BS by the NCAA. Basically, it calls for a system of “revenue sharing” where the NCAA establishes a trust paid by schools so they can fund players “equitably”. Their goal is to eliminate the collectives that are being privately funded by alumni from the richest schools. This is so the NCAA can regain control of the NIL system . They can’t stand the fact they have been rendered powerless when it comes to NIL and conference afffiliations. They’re also seeking ways to compensate women athletes more equitably and pass rules on how much NIL funds can be earned by student athletes.. They have a big problem with only hot and sexy female athletes benefiting from NIL. They’re even lobbying for Congress to take action and pass legislation to “fix” the NIL issue in college athletics. Congress needs to stay the hell out of this. This is one of the purest forms of capitalism and free markets we’ve seen in a while. Competition will eliminate those who can’t keep up and it’s going to make student athletes wealthier than under any system that is controlled by a central governing body like the NCAA.

I don’t know if you pulled this off ChatGPT but that was some well written prose. Well done. You win the flag today.

Thanks for the compliment. I follow college sports pretty closely and the political/social fallout from it. I have a big problem with institutions like the NCAA using their power and influence to shape public policy. Instead, they should just allow people to make their own choices and to be free to act in their own self interests without interference. Remember, the NCAA is comprised of people who are similar to those who run our major colleges and universities. They believe that everything should be regulated with a heavy hand because they believe they know what’s best for everyone. They honestly don’t think that most young men and women are capable of making decisions that are in their best interests.

This is the NCAA getting out in front for once. Everyone knows direct payment to student athletes is coming and it should have been happening a long time ago. The Supreme court ruled 9-0 that the NCAA rules violated antitrust laws.

From Kavanaugh's opinion

Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate. … The NCAA is not above the law.

He was basically inviting the next lawsuit. Anyone with half a brain could see that and the NCAA would lose. The direct payment is not an end to NIL. That is what started this and case law is very clear that student athletes are free to enter into contracts with 3rd parties and there is nothing the NCAA can do to stop it and probably very little they can do to regulate it.

If the NCAA gets their way, NIL collectives will die, and we’ll go back to whataburger bags full of 20s, just like the good old days!
A game that Texas did not play, and if we did, did not do very well. We have been terrible for 14 years.
