Let me preface this by saying that I am very much tech-illiterate. I can follow directions to plug things in and do some light troubleshooting on my own, but I don't particularly understand speeds, ports, or anything like that.
My buddies and I play CoD several nights a week as a way to catch up and banter after our daily obligations. Lately, the gameplay on my side has been so choppy (lag?) that it can nearly be unplayable, because I just get slaughtered. What a death sequence looks like from my perspective will look completely different from the kill-cam angle.
Things I have tried:
-A buddy walked me through opening some ports on my router that supposedly help with gameplay.
-CoD is the only thing I have on the PS5's original hard drive. I've added a 2TB internal hard drive that I keep all of my other games on.
-I've minimized all the graphic-heavy settings within the game
-Multiple times I've restart my TV, unplugged the router and the extender, powered down the PS5 and unplugged it for several minutes, then plugged everything back in.
-Restarted other devices in my house hooked up to the WiFi.
-My TV is pretty new, I bought it the week I bought my PS5, I told Harlan what I'd be using it for, and he said it would give me the best picture for what the PS5 is capable of displaying.
I have Google Fiber 1-gig. The modem/router is in my office, and I have an extender right next to my entertainment center in my living room, that I have my TV and PS5 wired into through Ethernet cords.
When I do a speed test through the Google Fiber app on my phone (wifi), I get 186Mbps down, 195 Mbps up, 5 ms ping.
When I do the speed test through the PS5, I get 578 Mbps down, 74 Mbps up.
There are times when the gameplay is buttery smooth, but that seems to only be 20% of the time, or so. For the record, I'm not having any issues streaming shows through other apps.
Here's an example of the gameplay when it's bad. Excuse the expletive, but you can see the choppiness of the person I'm trying to shoot at.
Any troubleshooting ideas?
