Musings from the Disch:
Texas players got a break from the field from Wednesday to Saturday. Now it is time to go back to work. The Horns have 4 more games left in the regular season and then the "third season" starts aka post season play. While Texas did not play this weekend, they certainly benefitted from Big 12 play as they moved from 6th place to 5th place in the standings and if they have a successful weekend could move up to 4th place. Going into the weekend, Texas needed to go 4-0 against Sam Houston and Kansas at home, as well as winning at least one, probably two games in Arlington in the Big 12 Tourney to host a regional PLUS get some help from friends along the way. Texas got help from some teams but others probably narrowed the margin even further for the Horns making it all the more likely they will hit the road for Regionals. Florida State and Vandy both winning their series puts sizeable dents into the chances of Texas hosting and that does not even factor in what Texas Tech did this weekend. There is still baseball to be played, but Texas is going to need a lot of help from friends this coming weekend and that likely means rooting for a surging Oklahoma squad which Texas is very likely to face in the first game of the Big 12 Tourney (gross).

While all this was happening, I turned my attention back to what players Texas potentially has coming in for Fall 2023. While it is extremely early and there will certainly be some additions and at least two subtractions that I know of, it was a great time chatting with Dustin McComas and Drew Bishop about Texas Baseball and the 2022 signee class. I realize youtube is not everyone's cup of tea, so I did a write up which you can find here (2022 Signee Class). As we get into June and closer to MLB Draft, I will have more on the signee class, as well as updates on current Horns and what their prospectus looks like for the draft.

Useless Stat of the Day (aka the Ivan Melendez update):

For all the pain, agony and suffering that Texas fans have endured this season as it relates to the bullpen, keep in mind that you are watching possibly one of the all time greatest hitting seasons in college baseball. Ivan Melendez is doing this in the BBCOR era to boot. He is special. #GoldenTitanic

Speaking of bullpen and pitching...to fan the flames a little, Texas does lead the Big 12 in ERA again

Mid-week Preview:
Texas (34-17, 11-10) v. Sam Houston (29-21, 19-8)

Tuesday night the Horns welcome in the Bearkats of Sam Houston State. Texas faced Sam Houston once prior this season back on March 1st when the Horns travelled down to Don Sanders Stadium in Huntsville for Crawfish Boil night. Andre Duplantier got the start that evening and went 6 IP, giving up only 1 run in route to a 10-2 win by the Horns where they completely dominated the Bearkats. Hitting wise, Hodo was the leader on the evening going 3-5 with a couple of RBIs and a walk. Offensively for the Bearkats, Chadwick went 2 for 3 on the evening accounting for 2 of the 6 total hits that the Horns staff gave up that night.

  • TCU travelled to Kansas and absolutely obliterated them, including a Saturday beating with a final score of 30-3....
  • Oklahoma continues to surge and while they dropped a close affair on Saturday, they beat the brakes off of West Virginia on Friday and Sunday to win the series
  • Kansas State hosted Baylor this weekend and played a tight series but came away with the series win after the Cats bounced back to win Sat and Sunday
