Just got confirmation from two separate sources that Katy RB Kyle Porter has committed to Texas.
******
Kyle Porter has always been a man of few words, which is the biggest reason the guesses on his recruitment have been all over the map.
The Rivals250 had narrowed his list down to Texas, TCU and Arkansas in recent weeks but did nothing to tip his hand as he took official visits to all three schools. On Tuesday, less than 24 hours before he'll sign his letter of intent, Porter pulled a surprise by committing to the University of Texas.
The 5-11, 190-pound Porter helped lead Katy to a state title in 2015, rushing for 1,938 yards and 36 touchdowns on 235 carries (8.25 yards per attempt).
Porter's decision to attend Texas comes at a time when the Longhorns are still looking to fill their running back coaching position that was vacated when Tommie Robinson took a job at Southern Cal. Robinson was the heavily involved in recruiting Porter while he was at Texas, but UT defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn has also been extremely active in Porter's recruitment.
"I know that's a good place for running backs. And this new offensive coordinator they have, he has a good balance," Porter told Orangebloods.com last month. "He actually has a little bit more run than they do pass so it's a pretty good balance. That's a good fit too."
A four-star prospect, Porter is the nation's No. 7-ranked running back and a member of the Rivals250. He is Texas' first and only running back expected to sign in the 2016 class.
