My wife was 28 weeks pregnant this week. Yesterday, she started complaining of what we thought were Braxton Hicks cramps. She wasn’t feeling well and went to bed early. At 1 am, I heard her screaming and ran into the bedroom. Her water broke. I called 911. Before the paramedics arrived, I delivered a premature baby boy in our bathroom. At that age, they don’t breathe really well on their own. After some concerning moments, he started to breath more regularly.

Luckily, the paramedics showed up moments after his birth. He was placed on oxygen and transported down the street to NICU. Honestly, I’m still in a bit of shock; mostly with the prognosis and hurdles we have to pass in the coming months.

I’ve done a lot of reading over the last few hours. And spent an hour or two with the NICU doctor and nurses. It sure sounds like we have a dicey and unpredictable road ahead. Nothing is guaranteed beyond a good chance at surviving at 28 weeks.

Any OBs have experience with premature children? My head is spinning and I’d love to hear from others that have been through this long battle in NICU.
