With spring practices starting today, here's my final projection of how the depth chart is set to shake out among scholarship athletes on offense and defense. We have some practice availability this week on Tuesday and Thursday, so I'll update the board in my writing with any changes necessary based on what we see at those. It's nice to think that starting today, we won't need to be "projecting" the spring depth chart any longer. Football is back!
Some of the usual disclaimers:
This is not the fall depth chart and does not include summer enrollees.
In the lightning/dime sub-package, a third safety may be lined up as the B-Backer/third safety who plays more of a dime LB role in this package. That was Jason Hall's role at the end of last season when Orlando really got the defensive side cranking on all cylinders. For those who say that guys like B.J. Foster will crack into the starting lineup over P.J. Locke, I'd advise that the best way to see Foster in the starting lineup would be in that sort of role.
Also, speaking of the sub-package, we will see Charles Omenihu and Breckyn Hager on the field together plenty in that situation, and in others that call for it. This projection by no means should indicate that one or the other of the two will be on the field at all times in a binary fashion. The chart is meant to indicate that Graham and Chisolm would be the preferred personnel of the staff to start in a base package when there is a need for a true strong-side or anchor DE/(3-tech or 4i).
