Defunding is different from disbanding or dismantling.

Here is a really good article from a police officer that explains the differences.

https://www.police1.com/chiefs-sher...nding-and-police-disbanding-ywS2ur5BSYvcr4lj/

In regard to defunding, or reallocation of resources, here is one area that it could potentially help police officers. This is an excerpt, pulled from the article above.

“On the positive side, by shifting these responsibilities to other agencies, police departments will be freed from devoting resources to certain calls for service, for a time anyway. There will be rough patches during the transitional period, but these issues tend to be self-corrective over time.”

Another point to consider, to quell the biased media.

“Take heart, my friends. Despite what the media is reporting, an overwhelming number of folks in your community both support you and need the services you provide. I know because I see them, and I meet with them.”

“Your communities are just as bothered as you with the notion that a SMALL, but vocal group, is trying to convince our elected leaders that law enforcement is no longer needed.”

What responsibilities do police currently have that can be shifted to other agencies?

Domestic abuse calls shifted to a 24 hour a day social working officer? Because we all know how social workers aren't backed up at all...... And we also all know that more social workers are women, rather than men, and nothing fits the bill better than sending ANOTHER woman into a house where a man lives that already loves beating his wife.....

Do we send drug counselors to crack and meth houses..... Unarmed? That's going to end well.

Kittens in trees is already the fire Department's bag of chips.

If a riot breaks out do we call the Brute Squad?

what city is it that has turned over all traffic stops to an unarmed civilian force? I anxiously await the outcome of that....

They haven't said anything about the sheriff or the DPS or the Texas Rangers...maybe we oughta send 1 Ranger to Seattle to clean that shit up and then bill Wash State, I don't think a Ranger would give up his gun in Texas or anywhere for that crap up there...I can just see one of them Community Guys knock on a door at a Drug house and wanting to talk to them about the evils of drugs with a Community Warrents, Give Seattle a month and they will be s screaming for the police to come back to work..

Ask the the police officer with over 27 years of experience that question. He wrote the article. I was merely posting that defunding, or the reallocation of funds, is not the same as disbanding or dismantling. And, that there may be some benefits from this process, again, posted by the police officer with over 27 years of experience. His words not mine.

Also, I wanted to show, as mentioned in his article, we shouldn’t automatically assume that a large population of society want to dismantle the police. That is not true.

I know exactly what it is. It's about a power shift. Taking the power away from law enforcement. Some folks need to be careful what they wish for. We as a society are not ready yet to police ourselves. I think the events over the last 6 months have proven that.

How about we legalize marijuana? Police in Texas are still spending lots of time arresting and jailing people for what appears to me to be a victimless crime. Then let's terminate all public employee union contracts. The officer who killed George Floyd had been involved in a couple of shootings. Amy Klobuchar was Hennepin County attorney. She chose not to prosecute him, perhaps because of the union. Furthermore, he and Floyd both worked at a nearby bar and were said not to be friends.
