There's news that he's healthy enough to play in the bowl game. I assumed he would get a medical redshirt. Does anyone know why that isn't an option?

No freaking way you waste a year for the 6&6 bowl. Only way that would make any sense is if the coaches want his clock running.

He has already redshirted. I don’t know if he would qualify for a medical redshirt I don’t think it’s a big deal either way if they play him or not I doubt he would stick around for two more years anyways.

What's the story with JP Urquidez? Was he injured and out for the season? He's been here two years and he hasn't played a down. Well at least I don't remember him playing. Or is he just not good enough and considered a bust?

I have the same questions about Mark Henry.

I've been wondering the same thing about JP since Kerstetter blew right by him for the 4th string right tackle spot.

Rodriguez redshirted as a true freshman for non-injury reasons, thus he's already used his RS year and wouldn't be eligible to apply for a 6th year. He's sacrificing nothing by playing in the bowl game.

Urquidez still has nowhere near the functional strength and bulk to play at this level; he'd be wise to transfer to a lower level FBS program after this season, use the transfer year to continue working on his core strength and mass, and compete for time in 2019 and 2020. I'll be surprised if that doesn't end up happening.

Aren't they changing the redshirt rules so 1 game doesn't burn, or did I just dream that?

The medical redshirt may be the most misinformed topic on these boards. Hell I am not even sure if my understanding is correct.

Redshirt - Everyone starts with 5 to play 4 so they all have a spare sit out year for development.
Medical Redshirt - player has a season ending injury early on (less than 25 or 20% of games) and despite actually playing a bit he can still use a redshirt if he hasn't already.
Medical hardship 6th year - player needs to have taken a redshirt year because of a season ending injury and missed another year because of a injury. That player is eligible to apply for a 6th year.

Rodriguez redshirted already not injury related so him playing or not playing won't affect his eligibility

How did Mayfield get a 6th year?

They are trying to change the RS rule so that a player could be used in any three to four games and still shirt.

He didn't. He just didn't lose the 2nd year of eligibility for transferring within the conference.

2013 - Tech freshman year
2014 - redshirt / transfer penalty
2015 - OU RS sophomore
2016 - OU RS junior
2017 - OU RS senior

I guess all the talk about it I just assumed it was happening. Hope it happens. It would be cool to see all hands on deck bowl games.

So can Jordan Elliot sit out the 2017 season at Mizzou, call it a red shirt, and retain 3 additional years of eligibility?

Yes. Transferring just uses up a year of your 5 years to play 4 years. If you still have your RS year available when you transfer it will go against that, so you don't lose any of the on field eligibility. Elliot played as a true freshman so he had 4 to play 3 remaining. He transferred and now has 3 to play 3.
