What Texas needs is a head coach that gonna come in their and basically tell the board and boosters to stay the hell out of the football business (Ala Saban). Coach has gotta have total control. You hired him as your coach so let him do his job, whoever it is. That is if you want a great coach.
Yes I want Texas to be good again. It's not good for college football for Texas to look like this. They are not even competitive against average teams.

Contrary to the uninformed prattling of some ESPN talking heads, our president and both of our crappy ADs under Charlie have almost entirely insulated him from any of our discontented boosters.
Our first crappy AD didn't provide proper support in other ways, but Charlie has still had advantages that most other coaches would kill for. He just made a staggering number of bad hires, didn't solve obvious problems quickly enough, and ultimately made an initially challenging situation impossible for himself through his own poor decision-making.
It sucks, because there's honestly no coach I'd rather see succeed at Texas than Charlie Strong, but it's just not happening.
sounded like powers had a lot to do with the strong hire as well. Maybe even more than Patterson.
That's one problem the university created for itself by not putting an AD in place this summer. Your going to go hire a football coach without your long term AD. Then your going to go AD searching and he really won't get to make any major hires. Maybe his entire tenure. That's a tough sell. We've got quite the mess in a lot ways.
Yeah but he only has a contract through next year and they were going to start looking this summer.
Can somebody tell me why Perrin was/is a mistake? He didn't hire Strong, or Shaka for that matter. Maybe he waited a little bit on the baseball hire, to find the right guy, but why is Perrin such an evil person???????? If the BMDs want a new coach for football, they will dictate that to whoever is the AD. PERIOD.
from my perspective he's not an evil person as a matter of fact seems like a heck of a nice man. Obviously very successful as a lawyer, and loves UT. He just seems out of his element when running the athletic department. Plus I think having an AD that's this close to the boosters is probably not great.
Does it matter if the AD is close to the boosters or not? The boosters dictate the direction. We all know that because of the money. go ahead, bring in Luck......the Boosters will tell him who to hire. That's how it works at big time schools. The AD is just a pawn. Nobody cares about the kids, they just care about Wins.
I think the AD has to be able to tell the boosters no from time to time. That's a lot easier if you don't go back years with them.
Sure he can say no, until the money dries up. ADs at schools like Texas are not stupid. Get money......tell me who to hire. And again, no one cares about the kids.
You are correct. The boosters don't care about the kids unless they are their kids. In return, the players show less loyalty to the school. You will see soon the enough. When the new coach sees the transfers, he will sh!t his pants. Gonna be like starting all over again.
And I can pretty much guarantee that none of them are their kids. They are all too fricking old. We will lose a lot of players next year if Strong is gone. I honeslty don't think we will lose as many fans who do not matter if Strong stays one more year.
Maybe you should admit that you were wrong on who hired Strong? Or you don't do that sort of thing?
Everybody on this thread is telling you Patterson hired strong. You are the ONLY one saying Dodds hired him.
Only speedstrength said that, go back and read. I didn't say dodds hired him, I said dodds was still there. If you can assure me that dodds had NOTHING to do with hiring strong. I'll admit I was wrong.
