For those who have trouble following the prosecutions case against Trump in his NY trial let me simplify it for you. I comes down to 8 key points.

1. Joe Biden is going to lose the election if we don't find a way to convict him of something or further besmirch his character.
2. The best we can do is try to leverage the Stormy Daniels thing into some basis to argue that he violated campaign finance rules.
3. Get the case heard before a friendly judge we own and before an anti-Trump jury.
4. To create the basis for the story, get Stormy to testify to details of their affair to establish probable cause for him to improperly record her nondisclosure payments (which are not illegal) as campaign contributions (which would be illegal).
5. Get Trump's former lawyer (Cohen) who has a hard on for him for personal reasons to testify that Trump made the payments to Stormy so as to improve his election chances thereby making it a campaign contribution.
6. Convince the jury that Cohen, although a profligate liar who has lied to Congress, lied to his wife and kids, lied to the judge in his own trial, lied to Robert Mueller, lied to his employer (Trump), stole from his employer (Trump) and lied to the judge in this case about his desire to be Attorney General for Trump - he, nonetheless sometimes tells the Truth.
7. Convince the jury that he is telling the truth about helping Trump's CFO hide the "campaign contribution," but was lying when he told Robert Costello that the payments were NOT a campaign contribution.
8. Have the judge craft his charge to the jury in a way that makes it almost impossible to acquit.

Now that is a lot of lying to sort out. It's mind boggling that Merchan has not already thrown this thing out, but then it seems a given that he is part of the plan. Many legal experts as well as numerous news outlets have said this case should never have been brought to trial and, if convicted, will most assuredly be overturned. So, at the end of the day, the real motive seems to just give the Democrats a campaign point to hammer to death.
