Hours after an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity in which Rudy Giuliani appeared to throw President Trump under the bus, he said his comments on a reimbursement in the Stormy Daniels saga were pre-approved with the president. Giuliani, a new addition to Trump’s legal team, had appeared to directly contradict the president’s assertion that he was unaware of his lawyer’s $130,000 payment to the porn star, saying Trump had actually reimbursed his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen. He told Hannity that Trump paid Cohen back “over a period of several months,” a comment that many saw as proof the president knew about the agreement to silence Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. But Giuliani later told The Washington Post that Trump was “well aware” Giuliani intended to reveal the reimbursement, saying the president knew “that at some point when I saw the opportunity, I was going to get this over with.” It was not immediately clear when Trump allegedly paid Cohen back, but he stated publicly as recently as last month that he knew nothing about the payment to Daniels.
