Growing pains on the offense

Yeah if Charlie had taken over the D sonner I think we probably beat Cal, Ok State and maybe OU. Which is why I think Strong probably stsys unless the TCU gsme is a blowout.

As far as the offense. Sometimes freshman QBs play like freshman QBs kinda what hspoened today. Ironically the pick that he threw wasn't his fault. He threw sevreal others that should of been picked though.

In 3 years we've gone through 3 o coordinators, and will be on our 2nd D coordinator. Charlie's loyalty is going to cost him as much as anything. I missed the 2nd half, but damn, can't believe we had 150 more yds and D got 4 turnovers and we still lost. That's just nuts. Knew not having a kicker was going to cost us this year.

We are basically on our 2nd OC. Norvell was just a place holder. I wouldn't of minded him staying honestly but understand why fresh stsrt was needed.

West Vir. is not a bad team. We have been playing well vs solid competition since OU.
I don't want a pickle, I just wanna ride my motorcycle. Which I did today. Haven't seen the whole game, but sometimes things don't go your way. Maybe we all need to chill for another year or so.

It only matters what our record is not if we 'played real tough' and lost every game.
Not sure that's true. I think Strong can survive 6-6 but the TCU game has to be a close well played game. I can handle a loss if you play well and get beat.

I don't know. I think he can possibly survive 7-5 since only one loss has been a blowout, but I'm pretty sure there will be a full-on BMD revolt if changes aren't made at 6-6.

Let em revolt... I'm not for change just for change. If the BMD can go get a John Harbaugh, Chris Peterson, etc then I'll listen. If all we're talking about is the Tom Herrman, Brian Harsin types I'd just assume give Strong one more year.

And I would hire Harsin over Herrman as of today. I know I'm in the minority on that.

1st downs : +11
Total Yards: +153
Rushing yards: +104
Penalty Yards: -5
Turnovers(by): -1
ToP: +7 min

We still lost...
This is why:
3rd down efficiency: -21%

Here's something else interesting/depressing: We're basically on pace to match the 2005 team's school record for total offense -- but only to hit barely 70% of its scoring output.

To make you feel better, that will likely be true for most teams in the conference. Offensive production has gone up in the conference big time since 2005.

I watched the game yesterday, and I agree that generally, you outplayed them. TX looked like the more talented team.

But I wonder if your current QB is the long term answer. He's good, don't get me wrong. Especially for a true freshman.

But a school like yours should be able to get an absolute superstar QB. If not a VY, then at least a colt mccoy. I'm not sure Buechelle will ever be as good as Colt McCoy. You're going to need great QB play to get to the next level.

I would love to see Buechele roll out more. He also holds the ball a little long sometimes but he is a True Freshman. I don't know if he is or will ever be as good as Colt or VY but he is not bad at all. For Texas to have a QB that is average is new to a lot of us because that position has been so bad for so long it seems.

I do agree Texas should be getting the BEST QB's out there.

They actually talked about that on the pregame, calling them empty yards. I looked at the stats after the game and it was pretty one-sided in our favor. litbhorn3 is right, 3 trips to the redzone resulting in 3 points doesn't cut it.

That's a problem with an offense that makes yards spreading out the field, when you get closer to the end zone it becomes much easier to defend, the back of the end zone becomes another defender.

But specific to yesterdays game, the O'line didn't do a very good job of protecting out QB in obvious passing situations. When the defense had to defend our run and pass we were pretty good and made a lot of yards, but when we had to go pass the O'ine needed to be a little better.

Every 3rd down for Texas or obvious passing situation the whole stadium and everyone watching KNEW the blitz was coming hard.....what did Texas do to slow it? Nothing that I saw. No QB moving the pocket......no slip screens.....no shorter routes to get the ball out faster......He was literally sacked BEFORE the snap on several plays..it just had to be made official.

Colt as a freshmen wasn't nearly the player that Buechele is. Shane will have to grow a ton to reach the level of Colt in his Junior and Senior year, but for now I'm very happy with the way he has played. I'm also really happy with his work ethic and approach to the game. He is a QB that the NFL will love.

The biggest difference between this offense and the 2005 team is

1. Vince - you can't just replace a talent like him.
2. Offensife Line - this years is still a young group that group was made up of mostly juniors.
3. David Thomas - He was such a weapon for Texas, almost never dropped a pass and always found a way to get open.
4. Depth - The 2005 offense was deep deep deep.

It's silly to try and compare the two, this offense isn't going up against very good competition and it is still struggling. 2005 faced some damn good competition and kicked all their asses.

3 drives inside the WV red zone. 3 points.

Difference in the ball game.

Defense did a great job of keeping it close.
Each time we turned it over, defense forced a turn over.

We had our chances.
Offense lost this game period.

I felt that after Shane got away with putting in traffic 3 times Gilbert went away from the passing game that opened things up in the 1st quarter.

Texas has a good QB now and You have no idea what Texas fans have been looking at the past few years, better yet,I wish Texas could close its borders and any athlete playing in the Texas schools would need to stay in the state at the college level. It would prevent schools like Alabama coming to Texas to find a QB to lead them..

Shane has hit the wall so to speak. Not bad that this is coming up on game 11 when he did it. Keep in mind, it took defenses 3 games to figure out how to defend Heard, and zero to defend Swoops.

Now it's time for Shane to raise the bar and prove they can't just blitz him and get away with it. 50% of that is also on Gilbert, but Shane can't get rattled like he did.
