Gumbo man is out

I called this to happen right after LSU won the NC in 2019 and my LSU friends looked at me like I had three eyes. Coach gumbo caught lightning in a bottle and he will never repeat it. He had a once in a generation QB and A+ coordinators. Once they left the program - poof. Back to 3-4 losses a year for LSU. Question is, who does LSU hire? The hot name this offseason will be Luke Fickell, the Cincinnati HC. Also Eric Bienemy will get a lot of attention. One knock against EB is I've heard that he doesn't interview well.

LSU has certainly struggled the last couple years but sometimes I wonder if big time college football expectations are becoming too high for anyone to meet at some of these programs. Yes. Every big time program wants to go to the playoff and play for a National title, but the reality is only 4 teams are making the playoffs right now and for the most part one team per conference So there are only 4 spots but there are 25-30 programs who want to fire their coach if they don’t make it. The expectations just don’t really match the reality of college football now when the playoffs expands to 8, 12, 16 whatever then yeah those expectations make sense

You’d have to think both those coordinators would be on the short list to replace him.

Honestly, I hope it is NOT Jimbo.

I would think Dave Aranda will get consideration. If I’m Baylor I would try to lock him up if he beats us in a couple weeks.
I was thinking that to, but man if your Aranda do you want that job? The SEC is about to get tougher with OU and Texas moving in. He’s building a good program at Baylor. It might not be a bad place to hang out for a bit. LSU’s expectations for its program(like many in the SEC) are way out of wack. I could see several guys telling them no.

Sounds like Gene Chizik at Auburn. Got a Heisman QB, Natty, #1 draft, and canned two years later.

Orgeron should be in the mix for the USC job, with his history there. Probably not the front runner.

USC won't touch him.

?? Didn’t he previously take over for Kiffen there as interim and then wasn’t retained?

Rumor is that the are some sexual assault accusations towards Coach O that are a big contributing factor in LSU parting ways with him.

I read somewhere that he was bringing different women into the facilities and some would even attend practice. Crazy if true.

I don’t know… they are reportedly paying him every penny they owe him. If that were true seems like you’d try to save 17 million especially if you planned on trying to land a big name

No offense, but a Texas fan saying anyone's expectations are out of wack is a bit ironic don't you think? They've won 3 national championships in the last 20 years.

I’ve said for many years that Texas fans are as big a problem at Texas as the coaching, but in fairness we haven’t fired 2 coaches that have won national titles a just a few years before. 2005 bought Mack a long rope. Perhaps longer than it should of been

You have a point.

There's no question that the expectations at Texas are out of whack. Also what makes the HC job even more difficult is the constant meddling of the boosters and regents. That said, LSU's expectations are out of whack as well. They're not Alabama and they never will be.

3 championships in 20 years is pretty impressive in the SEC though.

I believe that would be a damn good hire
Yep. Always been a fan of Franklin. Had we hired him instead of strong we’re probably in a different place today., and from a career standpoint point we’re probably going to a system in the next few years where the major conference champions make the playoff. If you get USC up to where USC has been there isn’t much competition out west. Not that way in the big 10 and SEC

LSU needs to wander around in the wilderness like they were before about 2002. Before Saban they were 2nd tier fb school with that scrub Heisman trophy winner Cannon as their only claim to fame and that was a joke based on one crap punt return.

Apperently LSU is going to take a swing at Dabo… might be a good time for him to duck out of Clemson honestly. I don’t think it’s likely to happen, but it’s probably more realistic than Jimbo

I don't think Dabo goes but we'll see.

I don’t think he will either, but hasn’t been that good a year at Clemson, and recruiting isn’t as good for 2022 as it has been in years past might be a good time to duck out. His very outspoken opposition to NIL probably isn’t helping him in recruiting in all honesty.
