Gundy meeting with Tennessee

Interesting. I know Baylor made a sizeable offer last year, but that was never going to happen. If he is still looking around, he must really be unhappy in Stillwater.

What's his deal with him and the admin. Wasn't he flirting with other teams in previous years. He's an alum and is really good. Seems like he should be loved by all up there. I guess the record against OU sticks in their craw?

$8.4M per in the SECE, at the third best program. Sign me up. He is at the third best program in the BIG12 now, so it wouldn't be any tougher for twice the money. Why not? Tennessee has more upside than Okie St anyway if they get it right. Georgia, Bama, and Florida every year would be tough, but the rest of the schedule would be very manageable.

Tennessee has to overpay after what happened this weekend. that said, he must really dislike t boone. and he may have the cache to go in like saban and say "here's how it's going to be done. i'm not interested in the input of your rich fans. take it or leave it." he's a really good coach. this would be a home run for them.

Gundy and Patterson are as good at they get in doing more with less.

OSU consistently has classes ranked in the high 20s and 30s.
TCU fares slight better because of being in Texas.

No state tax in Tennessee either, so thats a very sizable raise. I think Gundy has done about all he can at ok state. Plus he and Boone don’t get along. Boone had it put in his donation that he basically got to hand pick the next HC at ok state. Probably pisses him off a bit to still be waiting to do that.

Apperently Peyton Manning put the hard sell on Gundy.... I bet he goes, but he gets everything he wants out of Tenn

Lemme answer that for you:

Shortly after the bowl game, OSU will announce a "contract extension" for Gundy.
Yeah kinda figure. How bad is the Tennessee job? Dude just turned down a 6 year contract at double his current salary, and he went. Nah I’m good. Yikes.

They may end up with someone like Tee Martin.

Mississippi State his hiring Penn State OC Joe Moorehead as it’s new HC. That seems like a good hire.

That’s a ton of money to turn down. Although one has to assume he’s getting some of that in a new deal at ok state. Still. Tennessee looks really bad right now.
Why go there & contend with:
Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, & Florida (Dan Mullins)?

When you can stay at OSU & you are only contending with:
OU, TCU, & maybe Texas?

True. The only reason for him to leave OSU anyway is if he really just is done with Boone. He’s an alum, taken the program to levels it hasn’t been in a long time, maybe ever. He has a job there until he doesn’t want one.

I think his offense would give all of those teams you named fits. I am a fan of Gundy, think he's a good guy and appears to run a clean program. The only apprehension I have about him is his teams seem to not have the ability to meet expectations. How many Conference titles has he won? 1? Over the last 5 or 6 years alone, I have felt going into the Bedlam game that OSU have more offensive fire power in at least half of those games but for whatever reason they can't get it done. I'm not sure if that's on him or the players or what but I do think he's a good coach.

There is always a major discrepancy between the reported initial offers and what the coach signs for.

Mack Brown (age 66) has thrown his name in for the ASU job, where I guess Herm Edwards (age 63) is in the lead right now. I'd think Mack would be a better fit at Tennessee, and vice versa.

One thing you have to give the BIG12 is quality coaches. Patterson, Gundy, Snyder, and until recently Stoops and Briles were all top 25 coaches.

In 2015 half the coaches in conference were probably top 25 overall. That is a big deal.

Campbell looks like a good one if he stays long term and Riley is off to a hot start. I think Herman has a chance. BIG12 has made up for lack of NFL bodies with superior coaching. Coaching means a lot in college ball.

Tennessee targeted Dave Dorn from NC State after they couldn’t get Jeff Brhom... Dorn has turned them down.... might want to circle back to Schiano again Lol.
