Happy 9th Tristan Lynn Byrd.
How have any of us survived this almost seven years since you left us? I have no idea, other than we wake up in the morning and somehow get through the day.
The usual questions always linger. Who would you be? What are your loves and passions? What is your favorite color, song, book, movie, or Disney Princess? What is your style? What are your dreams?
My dream is that no other “Dada” must bury his precious baby. That he doesn’t have to put on a brave face everyday to face the world. That he looks into an empty crib and wonders where you went so soon. That he does not spend an empty birthday at his baby’s graveside. That he has to look into the sad eyes of his other daughter and see her sadness, grief, and desperation, and be unable to protect her from her pain. Daddy is supposed to be the protector of his precious babies. He should not be helpless.
In 2022, there were 76 fatal drowning of children in Texas. Seventy-six families devastated. Hundreds of broken hearts that may never heal. Time may heal these wounds, but the remaining scars are permanently displayed for all to see.
As of today, January 28, there have two (2) fatal drownings in Texas. This does not take into account the non-fatal drownings that resulted in some sort of brain damage due to oxygen deprivation. It is estimated that for every fatal drowning there are about five (5) non-fatal drownings resulting in brain damage of varying degrees.
If I can’t change the past, how do I change the future.
Miss Tristan Foundation was formed to help provide water safety training to pre-K and Kindergarten children. Working with the Archdiocese of San Antonio, the Diocese of Corpus Christi, and Colin’s Hope, Miss Tristan provides class room education and in the water safety training to these children for the past six (6) years.
Recently Miss Tristan Foundation merged with Harper’s Embrace to expand our water safety initiative. Harper’s Embrace’s mission is to teach parents CPR. Harper might have been saved if even one person present the day of her accident had known CPR. Now, while the children are in the water receiving safety techniques to protect themselves, the parents can receive CPR training free of charge in “Harper’s Corning”.
We are also proud to announce a partnership with Pre-K 4 SA to provide our services to the young children in this program. This year we hope to serve in the neighborhood of 2,500 children in San Antonio and Corpus Christi areas.
If you wish to help us help the young and helpless, please visit our website www.misstristan.com to learn more about what you can do to help save a young precious life and prevent a senseless loss of life.
