Fresh? Have not seen him in a while...That is all!

Fresh lives about 15-ish or so miles from me. He also now works in an industry that can keep you up at nights if something goes wrong. I would imagine he has tucked himself away in a deer blind with his kids or is on a kayak somewhere near Rockport pounding the specks as the bull trout roll to the shallows this time of year.

Now cali--- I'm legit worried about that dude.

Me Too!

Thanks for the concerns but I'm safe and sound. @clob94 guessed pretty close where I've been hiding. Was at my buds W Tx ranch (damn near an entire county) on a special hunt.
He needed help surveying mule deer & elk and I got to bag my first ever pronghorn. Those little dudes are a pain to stalk. They hear & see you a mile away and run like corvettes when they do.

Work has slowed to a normal-ish pace so I've been burning pto I've hoarded.

Cali on the otherhand...well.... we're hoping the family is ok.

thats interesting….way back in the old days using flintlocks, they used to tie a rag to the end of the barrel, holt it in the air and the pronghorns would walk right up out of curiosity.....seriously...

Sounds like ya giving Fresh a Old Pro hunting tip...LOL

We were running 2 UTVs after mules and just happened to notice the pronghorns so we spooked them pretty good. The pursuit was pretty exciting.

Missing airman who fell out of plane into Gulf of Mexico identified as 29-year-old Special Tactics combat controller

Yeah man there's a lot of detail mixed up in the reporting of this. For starters he didn't "fall out", he jumped. If from a c130 it was most likely a halo so on top of being fully geared he had oxygen. Masks get ripped off and you can pass out in freefall.
Long history of accidents have caused them to shut down and reevaluate the program a few times, especially when an experienced operator is involved. Sad but not entirely shocking.

#squirters=)roll

What did you use to bag him with?
Oh mannnn... you really want to make me look bad today.

I had the old tried and true 30-06 for a potential mule deer cull and wasnt planning on a pronghorn. Yeah yeah, a bit of overkill at 135yds but the only other rifle we brought was the yote' exploader 338 lapua mag.
I wanted pedestal mount but got more into the shoulder than I would have liked so a standard head mount it shall be.

A good taxidermist can hide some things. Show your taxidermist the cape and see if he thinks he can hide it.

It's out of my hands now. There's a big $ difference between a basic head mount and a quality pedestal and I don't have a lot of play money to gamble with.

Another bud of mine invited me to blackbuck hunt and I think that would make a much better pedestal mount anyways.

Nah man just curious what you popped him with and at what range. Fun fact-- I've shot coyotes with quite a wide range of calibers from a rem .17 up to a 300 ultra mag but never with a freaking 338 lapua. Who was humping that monster around? That's 15-20 pounds depending on the rifle and optics.

Mr Polaris carries that baggage.
Early evening with a wounded rabbit remote caller and lapua ready to make coyote pie = a fun time for all.

When I shot mine, we met the rancher at the gate. She drove us up to the bedding area, pointed to one, said, what do you think about that one? Bang. By the way, I'll probably get to hunt quail behind my new puppy next week or so.

You all make it sound like hunting backyard pets. These might see a human once or twice a year at most so they were very skittish. THAT'S MY STORY & STICKING TO IT!

Man, you have to kill a lion with a butterknife while blindfolded to impress anyone here. Y'all are obviously......... My kind of people!

Nope.

You just have to tell us one story about squirters.

I can assure you we would all be ears and eyes forward. :)

You carry too much power, I hunt with my .22 Hornet and I can pretty much bring down anything, from Deer to coyotes to wild hogs, my Granddad gave me this one brand new a long time ago, I put a Bushnell Banner Dusk and Dawn Rifle Scope on it and it works great for a 89 dollar scope...

Blackbucks make great pedestal mounts, a buddy of mine has one and and it looks awesome.

If he was on an oxygen tank he was above 22k feet.
The worst part of the high altitude jumps is having to do the hyperbolic 100% oxygen for an hour pre-jump. i got a very minor form of hypoxia once on a night jump because i half assed my pre jump oxygen.

Seems to me the hardest part of pronghorns is the landowner permit and the short season. Meat sure was tasty.
