Really? Is this a new position? I guess it's a good thing but you would hope that HCCS would be his own high school relations director. Maybe he is still learning the state I dunno. Cautiously hopeful

I can't figure this one out. Is this for recruiting? If so, why? Charlie is already killin it in recruiting, and if he has a winning season it's gonna get flat out ridiculous. Seems like relations were doing just fine to me.

My guess would be the main part of the job is done during the season when the coaches are more focused on field.

I feel like there was a point recently where a bunch of teams (particularly SEC teams) added a new position to the staff with primarily a recruiting focus...? And sure, Coach Strong seems to be doing just fine, but if it's okay with the NCAA, and other schools are doing it to try to gain an edge, why would Texas NOT do it too? As long as it wasn't forced on Charlie, I have no problem with taking all of the advantages we can...

This is Ken Rucker's position redefined. Nothing to see here.

Exactly. This is nothing new. Rucker was doing this from 2008 until last month under a slightly different job title.

CFB staffs are growing ever larger beyond the allowed number of assistant coaches. Saban basically has an NFL front office at Bama. Having someone who can be a liaison between the Texas coaches and the 1000+ HS coaches in the state, especially when Charlie and his assistants are at their busiest, is a good thing, and McCrary -- as a former assistant here and a long-time Texas HS coach -- is a terrific hire for the position.

I was told it's an "extra effort measure" to increase coverage and exposure. I thought it a bit extreme as well until I had it explained to me like this:

If you own an old mansion that's immaculate in every way, yet the neighborhood around you has deteriorated due to no fault of your own, are you going to install more security, or less? One more motion sensor won't hurt.

Isn't this the same type of hanger on job that "OLD freak Nasty" was in charge of?

Maybe its a position to check on HS players behavior and grades and how they play the game before we go and offer them to play...if they can't do the course work to get in then why try to waste time or they been in trouble in HS for various reasons and possibly get to know the players more, talking to a HS coach can give you a lotta insight on a player, rather than any other source

A solid position and one that needs someone doing it daily and serving the HC as to needed actions! You must not understand the time constraints on a HC!

Not as well as you do, evidently. Can't say I have ever been a coach at a D1 school..so opinion is not valid right?

Texas HS coaches are going to want access to the staff. If this guy gets in the way of that, then clearly that'd be a problem. He has to help out without obstructing.
