Hot Take: Bob Stoops to Trojans

I don't see it happening. Stoops is done. He doesn't have the desire to go all-in with all it entails in running a top-tier program.

Stoops understands the dark side of cfb. He's fought it for too many seasons. He's done, besides his wife has been banking it for years. I really don't see Bob taking a step back. Jmho.

If he brings his big ol bag of di*ks he might have a chance
Bob's bag of dicks gives you nightmares? I guess it would when yer team gets beat down repeatedly. Bob owned the Big 12th during his tenure. Do you dispute that? Be honest and leave dick out of it, if that's possible. 😁

You are really defending big game Bob huh chokelahoma? Queue the big ol bag of di@ks joke. You do understand that Mack Brown played in as many National Championships as big ol bag of di@ks right and won?

You can argue this son but Bob owned you, just admit it. Yer mad cause you got raped by hawgs a couple three days ago. This loss will linger and eat at ya when you don't even know who yer qb will be from week to week. I understand. Worried about Rice? 😁

Honestly I looked forward to every October when I could look down on the OU sidelines and see Bob standing there with a fanny pack full of dicks.

Alright I guess, dicks seem to be the theme with you guys. Good luck.
One year, the game is getting ready to start-- one of my old teammates sees Stoops on the sidelines and starts cussing up a storm. I mean a blue streak. He grabs his phone and makes a call. He's yelling at a guy on the other end about getting his deposit back because Stoops was still alive. It was convincing as hell. We all died laughing.

Did you win that game?

Look Stoops is past his prime. The worst thing to ever happen to Stoops coaching was winning the NC his second year. He won a lot of games but in the end stoops realized as long as he competed for the CC, the seats would stay full. We’d win a big game occasionally but there were some colossal failures too. He had NFL offers but never took them but went and coached in the wrasslin’ league? Never understood that.

if I was a school looking to compete at the highest level I don’t think I’d hire Stoops at this point.

I'm the opposite. For the last few years Bob has been studying how the game has changed (because he helped change it) and he's in the perfect spot to tweak the game a little more. USC offers him 10 million per and it's over.

My man, remember that Bob's championship season in 2000 brought us out of dark days of schnelly and blake. Even after that 2000 championship, we went on to play for 3 more. We got the one, but we were right there at the top until OUr defensive philosophy got ****ed up for whatever reason and Venebles left for greener pastures. Bob owned the b12 during his watch and is the winningest coach in OU's history. One of the cleanest coaches in a dirty game. He's hung his hat. I'm proud of him. 😁

Oh if the money was right I’m sure he would take it, I’m saying I don’t think he has the fire needed to compete at the top anymore but if USC wants to pay so be it. I don’t see Stoops doing well in CA either. The media, lifestyle etc

I think the only place he'd possibly consider is Iowa or whichever uni he played at. Smaller school, smaller expectations.

No way USC even approaches Stoops, and if they do, he won't take the job. It would be tough to turn down $10 mil if they offered it. Surely 'ol bag 'odicks Stoops' integrity, assuming that he has any, wouldn't let him take the job just to get a paycheck. The guy is done. Done.

Not for the reasons you suggest.

That doesn't sound like a guy who seems dead set on keeping his desk job. Why not just say "no"?
Exactly. But, I just don't see Stoops on the USC sideline or in SoCal. Just doesn't seem like a cultural fit to me. Football-wise, he goes into any store or restaurant in Norman and people are padding him on the back. In SoCal, no one will know who he is in public - maybe he doesn't care.

Sure, his wife can find a nice mansion somewhere in Malibu, Manhattan Beach, Pacific Palisades or Brentwood to live, but they can't escape the wasteland the area has become. From any of those nice enclaves you will pass countless tent cities on the drive to campus. Norman is no paradise but it also doesn't have tent cities and druggies everywhere - literally everywhere.

Joel Klatt Names The 5 Coaches He Would Call If He Were In Charge Of USC Search

Joel Klatt at a conference.
Just two weeks into the 2021-22 college football season, one of the most highly sought-after jobs in the country is up for grabs.
After an embarrassing 42-28 home loss to Stanford, the USC Trojans fired longtime head coach Clay Helton. Now, the program is on the hunt for its next leader — and some big-time names are being thrown into the mix.
On Tuesday evening, college football insider Joe Klatt revealed who he thinks the USC program should reach out to as their potential future head coach.
Klatt feels the Trojans should shoot high on their search, reaching out to some of the premier current and former college football coaches.
  • Oklahoma head coach Lincoln Riley
  • Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney
  • Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly
  • former Florida/Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer
  • Ohio State head coach Ryan Day

After making these coaches say “no,” Klatt suggested a secondary group of coaches for USC to gun for.

  • Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal
  • Penn State head coach James Franklin
  • Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley
  • Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy
  • New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels
While the USC football coaching gig is certainly an enticing job, most of these coaches (especially on the first list) would be more than a long shot to leave their current situations.
Riley, Swinney, Kelly and Day all have well-established programs with history of recent success, Meyer is currently notching his first NFL season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cristobal has his Pac 12 program positioned as a top-five team in the nation.
The only name on this list that has officially been reported as a potential candidate is Bieniemy. The longtime NFL assistant, a former native of Southern California, has previously noted that the USC job is the only gig that could persuade him back into the college ranks.
As of right now, interim head coach duties fall on Donte Williams.

Ok--- Urban Meyer when asked immediately said "no way, no how. I'm staying in jacksonville."

Stoops was wishy washy. Why? Fox won't get into a salary bidding war for Bob. Doesn't work that way. Fox won't bid. So he knows he can't hustle a raise out of them.

Yet, he did not say "no" one time.
