Houston's decision to participate in the Las Vegas Bowl on Dec. 17 could benefit Texas this year.

If Texas coach Tom Herman wants to hire more former staff members from Houston, he has the opportunity to pull it off after his former team plays against San Diego State. The good news for Texas is if Herman hires more members of Houston's staff, it will occur during the recruiting dead period, which gives coaches plenty of time to evaluate film and learn more about each player. If Houston played in the Birmingham Bowl on December 29, like the University of South Florida, potential staff members would have less time to evaluate current players before the dead period ended.

Let's see what moves Herman makes after that bowl game.
