How did Texas high school football become all offense and no defense?

I ask this because it has bled into the Big 12 and it's not getting better. It is going to be VERY difficult going forward to go undefeated in the Big 12, because on any given day, a few calls and few big plays go against your team and boom you lose. That's how I see it.

I don't see this form of pass happy football affecting the rest of the country, yet. The B1G and $EC still play plodding football and the pac still plays pro sets save washington state. I don't think this form of football is a winning formula unless Big 12 teams can field 2 seperate defenses during a game due to fatigue. How did we get here?

I think it’s just more of the offense’s are harder to stop than the defense’s being bad.

I disagree. If the defense is good, scores are much lower. I have a suspicion that the best players, the ones that don't play offense and defense, are being placed on offense at the high school level. I don't think the spread / air raid is a winning formula unless more players can be dedicated to the defense due to fatigue. There is a lack of balance and the Big 12 will pay unless this is corrected. How will we pay? No playoff teams.

I would cite the OU - Jawja game last year as an example. Typically $EC scores aren't 41-34 but the playoff game between these schools was high scoring and jawja won. The lack of balance caught up to OU in the end.

You need top atheletes to stop these offenses. Unfortunately there are not as many top atheletses on the defensive side in the Big 12. If you don’t have lock down corners and dlineman that can get pressure you’re going to struggle. The offenses constantly go for the big play and if you get caught sleeping you pay for it.

In Texas it's easy.

Do some research on when 7 on 7 competitions started. Then do the math.

Isn't 7v7 played all over the USA? Yet, the Big 12 is the only place that the spread and air raid are the norm. I was under the assumption that this system originated with Hal Mumme (sp)? Will the spread/air raid be something that spreads to other leagues or dies out?

The Eagles won the Super Bowl last year with the spread.

The majority of Saban’s losses at Bama were to spread teams.

Simple- the best athletes, the best players, all want to play offense. they want to score td's so they play offense. Defense is usually a mixture of leftovers, and guys who can't catch lol.
