Hurricane Laura

Being a Vet of Hurricanes, make sure ya have a battery run Lantern and a Coleman stove for eating, most of all have your Meds refilled if needed and water, beer, soda etc, if you got a portable gen, make sure the damn thing starts and plenty of gas, I am like MM, I never leave, takes to long to get back in and traffics a bitch. BE SMART! And the main thing is take care of your pets, this shit scares them....and make sure ya have plenty of Shiner Reg and something to BBQ...and dog or cat food..and kitty litter...if ya in a high water one practice swimming in Bath Tub...

It's getting massive. Hopefully, it misses Houston. I have a buddy who lives 10 miles inland between Houston and Port A. Last time his roof was completely underwater.

Last time I looked a few hours it looked to be east of Houston but close enough to get a lot of rain. But it looked like Beaumont is going to get pounded. 3 years ago Port Arthur which is in the same county as Beaumont got hit harder than anyone. by HH. Jefferson county has been hit hard economically the last 30 years they don't deserve this. Most people don't know what a great musical culture and history Beaumont has. And they got all those crazy Cajuns as well.

I was born and raised in San Antonio but I've always liked Beaumont. Some years ago my first wife and I went to the annual blueberry festival there held on the last weekend of May and we had a grand time. The first oil to be discovered in Texas was at Spindletop in Beaumont. And who knows maybe Friday night lights could have been a good story if the setting was Beaumont. And there the high school fb was better, a lot better, than Midland-Odessa at one time there was remarkable number of NFL players from Jefferson county. And who here remembers the Texas Golden Triangle Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Orange?

Sadly Beaumont's best days are probably behind them. A lot of jobs were lost when the oil industry collapsed there. The unemployment is high and the murder rate is the 2nd worst in Texas.

Sad really.

Hurricane Laura update

The eye of the storm is supposed to hit tomorrow morning in LA and AR. They're saying that more than half of Lake Charles, LA is going to be underwater. For those that don't remember Lake Charles is the first town you hit in LA when you're driving on I-10 east. It's now a category 5 which means winds of up to 150.mph. You don't know exactly where it will touch down till it does.

We are getting no rain at all in the Houston area. We dodged a major bullet. The winds are minimal, maybe 25 MPH. Please say a prayer for our friends in east TX and LA. Wait and see the pics tomorrow when the sun comes up. It will be absolutely catastrophic. This will be one of the worst hurricanes to ever hit the US coast.

The storm has hit land at Cameron, LA and the eye of the storm is supposed to touch down in northwest LA early this morning. There is supposed to be flash floods in se Texas. As bad as that is at least it's not a hurricane times are hard enough in se Texas.

There was another Hurricane that hit Cameron back in the day, can't remember, Carla I think or Allen that wiped that own off the Map..Used to go outa there when I was working Off Shore..

Allen hit SPI 1980. Category 2, but it was the first hurricane that barometric pressure could be measured offshore. NWS mistook ocean barometric pressure for landfall pressure. Told us all that it would be the worst ever. Being government, never admitted the error.

No that would be Nacodoches County in 1866 but it was one of the first notable gushers of record.

Spindletop will always be considered as where oil was discovered in Texas.
No it’s known as the first notable gusher, 1 million barrels of oil hit the ground before they got it contained.
Besides, you hate oil so why try to educate me about it. I don’t try to educate you about things I hate like violent left wing antifa and blm rioting and looting , reparations, unnecessary covid fear mongering, athletes/sports teams getting political and boycotting games, things like that
