They didn’t do what they previously did on film . How about we do something to surprise the other team ? How about we outscheme the other team ? How about rolling QE out with RPO? Baylor may play previous QB Blake Shapen and surprise us? Dominique Richardson is due back as well. Baylor gave # 13 Utah all they wanted till 1 minute left in 3rd quarter.

Interesting....RPO then roll out. Trying to think how that would work.

I'm not sure RPO with a rollout is necessary...seems like overkill.

What specifically are you looking for Texas' O to do in this particular scenario?
I like giving the QB the option to run or pass maybe to a tight end route to the same side a very high percentage pass to build his confidence. Seems I remember QE making good throws on the roll out versus keeping his feet set in the pock which seems hard for him to do throwing off his back foot a lot .

RPO with rollout wouldn't work because the linemen would be downfield already. Also, RPO generally is either hand to the back, or pull and throw a slant or arrow. However, QE usually does a pretty good job with RPO reads and throws. Generally, RPO is inside zone for the OL and they block like a normal run play. It is on the QB to read the OLB, or walk down S quickly and get the ball out before the OL get downfield.

As far as rolling QE out. I don't remember many times where QE has done that. I'm trying to think of moments he has made a throw on the run and honestly I can't remember many. If you have some specific plays please remind me. I do like the quick snap screens and RPO where QE's read takes him to the flat if he pulls.

All that said, I think we're going to see much more of the offense moving forward. Motion after resets trying to create numbers up and multiple routes attacking specific zone coverages. So much fun when you see all that shit taking place. The more you have to make the defense communicate coverages, the better!

I’d like to see Q run a little more. Maybe even a few designed runs as opposed to pulling it down after progressing thru his reads. A mobile QB makes the pass rush stay disciplined in their lanes.

I understand what you are saying......but damn!...they surprised us so much that we gave up 10 points...and 7 of that was on one play...Now on offense....we had 10 points through 3 quarters. They surprised us so much that we dropped passes or over threw them?

our biggest issue the last 3,5 10 years or so was losing games in the 4th quarter. We are doing a bit better this year.....we did afterall win by 3 TDS

One of QE best throws was rolling out/ scrambling and hitting Bijan on the sideline vs Ou

I guess I should not have used RPO but basically just like rolling the Qb out.

Yeah, I thought I knew what you were getting at but wanted to make sure.

RPO is so great with a QB like QE who can read it pretty well and WRs that can read that OLB/S too.

Moving QE to his left is good too. Maybe we will see more of that. I'm not sure about moving to his right....don't remember any moments.

Last year we jumped out to big leads only to let off the gas and lose .

Our biggest problem is teams that run a 3 high safety defense. We absolutely cannot, or will not adjust for it. Blows my mind.

If I’m any future Texas opponent, and I don’t run a 3 high look, I’m installing it yesterday, because we can’t handle it.

That’s on offense. On defense, I hate to say it, but it’s Jarrin Thompson. Bless his heart, he’s super smart and makes some big plays, but good god he’s slow. I mean he makes GDDH look like Deion. He will be attacked all year because of it. Pray for Derek Williams to come along real fast.

This is a symptom of playing too many guys. Making adjustments on the fly requires people with the intellectual capability to understand the adjustments. If we are playing 3-4 deep, then we will have guys on the field who can't make the connection and will have breakdowns. To me, we are relying on depth and talent to win. We aren't scheming past teams we think we can beat with talent. This will bite us in the ass.

On the contrary, the only way to get better and learn to do those things is seeing yourself on film with quality game reps. So, it is either we play starters only, or we play 28 guys, get them on film and teach them how to effectively line up and communicate.

You need to play 4 edge players. You need to rotate 4 interior DL guys. That's 8. You need to rotate 4 LBs, that's 12. You need to have 6-8 players in the secondary based on coverages, packages, etc. That is at least 18. And that is minimum if you want to have a successful year long defense.

For the most part we have been doing that. Against Rice and Wyoming, we did go into the 3 deep on the DL and safety positions.

28 defensive players have recorded at least 2 tackles. That's not a bad thing IMO.

Expect an upset or 3.

Damn!...Mack was too nice and did not want to embarass the other coach. He always let off the gas. Sark does not seem to have the ability to keep a full press on. We need some big leads to get the second and third teams some work....

Sark ran a vanilla offense against Rice and Wyoming. Not much motion or misdirection. Against Bama it was totally different. Our defense is good enough to not have to show all our cards on offense every game.

I am most concerned with getting 2nd and 3rd team QB ready to come in and play right away

We've won the 2nd half 3 weeks in a row.

Sure, would love to start faster but given this year vs year's 1/2. . . . .I'll take this year all day long.

Face it, we miss BiJan and RJ. Brooks and company will get it figured out.

Yes. We have won the 2nd half every game this year.
