Florida should back up a Brinks truck to Lincoln, NE, and steal Matt Rhule.
Why for Matt Rhule:
1. He doesn’t stick around at any job too particularly long. Which leads to my next point…
2. We know for a fact he will leave a job for a better opportunity.
3. Florida is definitely a better opportunity.
4. Yes, he would be leaving Raiola, but he’d be inheriting Lagway. Minimal drop off, if any at all.
5. Recruiting at UF would be infinitely better than recruiting at NEB. This building a roster complete with quality depth is far more feasible.
Why for UF:
1. Matt Rhule is a quick turnaround specialist. I’m not certain anyone in the country is better than him at that. See both Baylor and Nebraska in year 2.
2. With his proven track record of program flipping on the P4/P5 level, combined with the UF brand, that’s an easy sell to the roster, as well as recruits, and (importantly) BMDs.
3. After a few years of Rhule, they’d be far better positioned to find a long term solution than they are now. So it’s not the worst thing in the world if he bolts for greener pastures before long.
4. Perhaps he brings along Brennan Marion or Joe Brady to run his offense. The Go-Go or 2019 LSU offenses, shouldn’t be hard to pitch.
I was always a proponent of the Rhule hire for NEB. My mom’s whole side of the family is from Omaha, and half of my siblings were born there, and they’re massive sports fans. So, I actually had to lobby for them to not piss their pants after year one. He’s tried and true at multiple levels. He’s probably the highest floor/ceiling combo they can get. They should definitely stay away from Lane Kiffin.
