Well, it's a long and complicated answer.
Let's start with this weekend, just as an example:
Aggy wins a football game over, what many believe to be, a pretty good UCLA team lead by arguably the best sophomore pro prospect at QB in the nation. Reason to cheer, am I right? Sunday morning came and I went to my favorite spot in Gruene for Sunday brunch and there they were-- maroon and white shirts, hats, overalls- you name it- alumni and tshirt fans alike. Those of you that know me know that when I'm not at work, I wear the same wool fitted 7 3/8 texas hat I've had for over a decade- everywhere I go, everyday. It's my lucky hat. Like American Express- I never leave home without it.
I get the usual stares from aggy during the fall as I take my seat at the table. Then one, an older man, decides to pipe up:
"Gonna be tough sleddin' for you sips today. Beatin' ranked teams ain't so easy in Austin these days...."
An obvious goad- I turn and smile and reply "Where'd you go to school?"
He points at his shirt and says "it says right here on my shirt!".
I slowly start turning back to the forward position in my seat as I simultaneously say "ooohhh, have to keep it written down, do you?".
We can't get mad at these people anymore than we can a dog that chases cars, cows that leave their pen when the fence is knocked down, or deer that stand in the road frozen by headlights. It's just who they are.
So with this victory on Saturday over UCLA, you'd think they'd have enough to crow about to keep them occupied. Wouldn't you? I mean, beating the #16 ranked team in the country is a big deal-- even Nick Saban agrees with that.
But not aggy.
And why? Because they were, yet again, eclipsed by big brother. Eclipsed on a larger stage, with more viewers (largest tv rating for any opening weekend game ever) over a higher ranked team, and the original blue blood team at that. It, in their eyes, marginalized their win. It's not enough for them that THEY won, they NEEDED us to lose to fill their voided souls. It's like a battered wife.... he hits me but I love him. It's sick. It's a disease. And they are powerless to stop it. They can't help themselves anymore than the dog chasing the car.
Take for instance their website- texags- the Texas vs ND thread had over 200,000 viewers, 50 some pages and almost what, 2000 posts? At one point Sunday night texags servers went offline. They crashed it------- during OUR game.....
NOW- to excuse away or detract from what Texas did, the BAS conspiracy club has shown up.
1. Targeting. They believe targeting should have been called on the Tori Hunter hit. They believe it wasn't, NOT because the refs were ACC refs, but because the review booth had Big 12 officials in it. This is text book paranoid delusional disorder. I mean literally, a Doctor would have them seek treatment for this.
2. The fix is in between ESPN and ABC. Hey dummy, espn IS ABC. I didn't see any ACC refs cell phones ring right after that hit.... nor did I see espn executives hand cuffing the refs so they couldn't throw the flag. Paranoid much?
3. F-250... they say all our recruits were bought F-250 trucks by some mysterious donor. Those are criminal allegations. If you've got proof, present it. Without proof you're committing slander and liable and can have your a$$ in a legal sling over that. Jealous much?
4. Racist slurs. "Milk dud. Chocolate Charlie. Chollie. Chocolate Hobbit. 8 ball. Sam wise charlie." Just a few of the names Charlie is called on their website. Hate much?
This brings me back to my opening statement. I'm sure not all aggys are this way. I know my aggy friends are not. If they are, they know how to hide it like a sociopath. But they truly can not help themselves. This is who they are and sadly, we sort of, kind of made them this way. We've lorded over them for so long that they are just this way. We morphed them into the kicked dog that still loves his master but hates him simultaneously. It's sick.
This is why I say, I never get mad at aggy. Victor Frankenstein created a monster, though it had few redeeming qualities, it was his monster. Aggy, is ours.
