It will not be because of the defense.

It will be because the offense did not play well enough.....
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas State
West Virginia
Kansas

are all losses where the offense did not take advantage of opportunities or gave up turnovers.

Loyalty and being a nice guy cost Charlie. Watson should've been gone after year 1 and Bedford should've been gone after last year. I know they helped him get to the next level, but sometimes those same people can't get you to the top.

OU gave up 834 yards to Teach and still won.
Texas defense forced 4 turnovers against OU and our offense scored 3 points. That cost us the game.

Those of you very ken on blaming the defense ned to accept one thing - Our offense underachieved every game this season!

It will be because he fell one year short. This team will be very good next year, potentially New Year's Day bowl good. Charlie needed 4 years because he decided to gut the program and do a complete 180 to change the culture. We still have one of the youngest teams in the Big 12, and Charlie's guys are just maturing. A below .500 record is never acceptable at UT, but I honestly believe Charlie built something good here and whoever is the new coach next year will see those positive returns.

There are a lot of Strong apologists, but to still be fighting for him after the Kansas loss is remarkable. Even the condescending busybodies in the Statesman comments section have shrunk into their holes. If Strong is back next year (and it's entirely possible), Texas will lose 6 or 7 games even with the weak schedule. Was this year's schedule all that gruesome? No! A weak Big XII to go with a non-conference slate of 4-7 Notre Dame, UTEP, and 4-7 Cal.
And to correct the record, he didn't gut the program. He let go of half a dozen players most of whom were not starters. Last year's graduating class was ranked in the top 3 when it was signed. If there wasn't talent on the roster, Texas would not be able to stay on the field with Oklahoma or beat Baylor the last 2 years. Yet, at the same time they're losing to teams like Kansas. Losing games you should win on talent alone is a sign of a poorly coached team.

We're 5-6 in our 3rd year with Strong. For us to be dissecting who's to blame the offense or the defense tells you a lot. Coaching sucks period!

ANNNNNNNND we lost to Kansas!

He has a top 25 national defense in yards, scoring, 3rd down, pass effic, INTs? both sides and STs were sub par when it counted. His last win was against a bad Baylor team that will not win another game.

Winning those games is how Mack Brown made his name. He lost the games vs the good teams until he got VY.

Bullshit.

Mack owned Nebraska
Mack beat LSU with Nick Saban as their coach.

To make a statement like that is stupid and just tells me you were probably too young to appreciate what Mack Brown did for us.

He owned a has been Nebraska program, he NEVER coached against Tom Osborne while at UT!!! He didn't beat the national champion LSU team. You are clearly devoid of football knowledge and therefore obviously a Mack Brown fan. The team he beat in Lincoln in 1998 was the WORST NU team since the late 1960s. He coached against the guy that brought the program down and was fired and is now at Ohio! This is just like UT fans praising Peter Gardere for being the OU killer when OU was down between Switzer and Stoops.

Curious who you were a fan of before Mack Brown came to Texas. Did you even watch UT football? It's hard not to be gracious to a man that brought Texas back to consistently being in the Top 10 year after year. Yeah we OBVIOUSLY (your favorite word) know after the 2009 BCS Championship (Colt McCoy) the wheels started to fall off the bus but come on.

1998 Texas 12 9 3 0 .750 Cotton Bowl-W
1999 Texas 14 9 5 0 .643 Cotton Bowl-L
2000 Texas 12 9 3 0 .750 Holiday Bowl-L
2001 Texas 13 11 2 0 .846 Holiday Bowl-W
2002 Texas 13 11 2 0 .846 Cotton Bowl-W
2003 Texas 13 10 3 0 .769 Holiday Bowl-L
2004 Texas 12 11 1 0 .917 Rose Bowl-W
2005 Texas 13 13 0 0 1.000 Rose Bowl-W
2006 Texas 13 10 3 0 .769 Alamo Bowl-W
2007 Texas 13 10 3 0 .769 Holiday Bowl-W
2008 Texas 13 12 1 0 .923 Fiesta Bowl-W
2009 Texas 14 13 1 0 .929 BCS Championship-L

Wheels on the bus coming off AND STILL won a couple of bowl games. BUT Screw MACK!
2010 Texas 12 5 7 0 .417
2011 Texas 13 8 5 0 .615 Holiday Bowl-W
2012 Texas 13 9 4 0 .692 Alamo Bowl-W
2013 Texas 13 8 5 0 .615 Alamo Bowl-L

I always felt sorry for Mack Brown - the only games that were "big" games were the ones he lost. The games he won didn't matter (according to the pundits).

Don't even bother man. This dude or chic is on here constantly to yank our chains.
