3 of the 4 coaches in the CFP had zero prior HC experience and would have never been considered by Texas.

You sure about that? Wisconsin is not happening, slooooow.

Oklahoma in - No experience
Georgia in - No experience
Clemson in - lot's of experience
Alabama or Ohio State - lot's of experience either way

Yep. Coordinators are a under considered resource for coaches by most D1 programs. You’d think ADs would see that, but not many have.

yea wiscy/ohio st is pretty well over right now. there is just no speed at all on wiscy
If TJ Barrett didn't suck, it would be 35-3 at half. They have wide open receivers and he misses them over and over. Wisconsin can't beat anybody with any speed. How is it possible they are undefeated? Ohio State doesn't look great either. But they look fast.

Lincoln Riley was a coordinator before he got the OU job.

Danone Swinney was a coordinator before he got the Clemson job.

Kirby Smart was a coordinator before he got the Georgia job.

We don't hire coordinators, so we would have never given any of these guys their first chance, but they all appear to be quality head coaches.

Texas should always hire the best candidate that can win (asumming legal, moral, & ethical character checks out).

Is 1 year at Tech ( David McWilliams) or 2 or 3 years at a commuter school in a crappy conference (Tom Herman/ Charlie Strong) really that much more of a difference? Considering how McWilliams, Strong and Herman worked out (or starting out) I think you see Texas needs someone with more experience. I think Herman and Strong would have or can benefit from a strong AD. Texas won't win again until we have the next DeLoss Dodds in place
