Capitol riot only happened because Trump was a sore loser

There is a lot of hyperbole and exaggeration about the Jan. 6 riot from the Left, but there is one reality that cannot be ignored: The riot would not have happened if former President Donald Trump was not a sore loser. That it did happen, and that he let it go on for some time without comment, shows how little he cares about the country, the GOP, and the conservative movement.
Trump lost the 2020 presidential election. He lost despite the fact that he was running against Joe Biden, a bumbling career politician who hid from the cameras for months during the campaign. Biden could hardly produce four coherent sentences at a time without a script. He picked Kamala Harris, a career mediocrity and one of the least skilled politicians in the country, to be his running mate, and yet Trump was too undisciplined and too erratic to beat that train wreck of a ticket.
He was also too egotistical to acknowledge defeat. He insisted the election was stolen in multiple states, including Georgia and Arizona, both of which were run by Republicans. He fell down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories, sabotaged the GOP in the Georgia Senate runoffs to give the Senate majority to Chuck Schumer, and ludicrously asserted that Vice President Mike Pence could simply void the election results in whatever state he wanted.
The Jan. 6 riot would not have happened if Trump had won, obviously. But it also wouldn’t have happened if Trump had simply conceded and turned his focus to holding the Senate and winning back the White House and the House of Representatives in subsequent elections. The riot would not have happened if Trump had not breathed life into these conspiracy theories. He is at least partly morally responsible, if nothing else.
That does not take away from the Democratic Party’s many failures. Yes, Democrats refused to acknowledge election results from 2000, 2004, 2016, and 2018. Yes, prominent Democrats still insist (with no evidence) that the Georgia gubernatorial election was stolen from Stacey Abrams, who lost by more than 50,000 votes. Yes, Democrats and legacy media are hypocrites who excused or downplayed Black Lives Matter riots throughout 2020. And yes, of course, Democrats and their media allies are using Jan. 6 as a political tool against the GOP.
But it’s Trump’s fault that that is the case. He lost to Biden, and then he refused to accept this loss. He hurt the country not just with the national disgrace of that day, but by giving Biden the White House, giving Democrats the Senate, and by letting Democrats project their election denials and riot apologia onto the GOP. Trump’s behavior and the riot inspired by it embarrassed the country, threw the GOP out of power, and made the Democratic Party stronger.
Judging from his statement one year later, he hasn’t learned a thing. But that isn’t a surprise: Trump never cared about the country, the GOP, or the conservative movement. They were all vehicles for promoting himself, which is why he was willing to trash them all to distract from his loss to Biden. Democrats would not be using this as a political tool if Trump didn’t feed into it, and yet he continues to give Democrats a lifeline.
