Here are a few notes we've picked up from Texas' closed scrimmage on Saturday:

- It was the 12th practice of the spring and the second full-blown scrimmage. It was rainy to start out so the field conditions were a little sloppy. It was closed to the media as usual.

- Numerous high school coaching staffs who are in town for the coaching clinic were able to take in the scrimmage and the rain made it nice and cool outside.

- Good news: RB D'Onta Foreman took part in the scrimmage. As we've been reporting, the staff will limit Foreman's touches for the remainder of spring thanks to a minor injury, but it's good news that he's a least out there practicing again.

- S Jason Hall is banged up but we're still working on details as to the extent and nature. It doesn't sound major at all. This means Kevin Vaccaro and Deshon Elliott were the first-team safeties on Saturday as Dylan Haines also remains out.

- RB Roderick Bernard was banged up during practice, we'll continue to monitor the situation for updates. It's somewhat significant as a deep RB group has seen its depth somewhat depleted this spring with injuries to Tristian Houston and Kirk Johnson with D'Onta Foreman also being limited recently. Bernard had been a player praised by most all sources for the impression he was making in the absence of these others so it'll be an important little issue to monitor.

- One person said WR Jacorey Warrick left practice during the scrimmage but we have no further details than that at this time. We will continue to monitor.

- QBs Shane Buechele and Tyrone Swoopes split equal reps with the first and second groups. This is a little different than the last scrimmage where Buechele reportedly received a smaller portion of snaps with the ones than Swoopes.

- One source said Buechele actually got the first reps with the ones. Buechele showed a big arm on a deep ball to Deandre McNeal who had gotten free but overthrew him.

- Speaking of WR Deandre McNeal, he continues to get a lot of run with the first group but one person at practice says he needs to be "more consistent."

- The first-unit OL to start spring: Williams, Hodges, Shackelford, Vahe and Perkins (L to R) are all back healthy. One person said D'Onta Foreman had a big run on a play where the line opened a huge hole on the right side.

- An interesting quote was "Shackelford is better than (Doyle was) and Hodges is (better than Flowers was)."

- One person in attendance said DT Poona Ford "dominated." The person said Ford had "like 3 sacks."

- We've been hearing about LB Breckyn Hager working at the defensive end and off the edge more often and one person at practice today said he was playing fox. Based on the entirety of reports, all that's clear is that Hager is being used much more lately as an edge and overhang player than an ILB.

- DE Bryce Cottrell is apparently back in the pit after joining spring practices this week for the first time. This could just be precautionary. The writing is on the wall, though, that the SDE position will basically be up for grabs through fall camp.
