Come on now, OSU, I like Gundy and think he does a good job and runs a good program but a loss is a loss. This is kind of like Les Miles trying to explain away his team's 2 losses and convince people that his team deserved to be in the NC because "we're undefeated in regulation"

Oklahoma State rings turn CMU loss into win

At what point do you simply let it go?

Well, if you’re the Oklahoma State football team, it’s apparently a longer process than most.

On Alamo Bowl rings unveiled Wednesday, Oklahoma State’s record is listed at 11-2. One problem: The Cowboys actually were 10-3, the one controversial loss to Central Michigan on a final play that officials later admitted shouldn’t have been allowed.

Gavin Lang, a spokesman for the Oklahoma State football team, confirmed to The News that the 11-2 record printed on the rings was an intentional decision.

Central Michigan coach John Bonamego, reached by The News, said he had no comment.

On Sept. 10, Central Michigan stunned then-No. 22 Oklahoma State, 30-27, on a Hail Mary-lateral on an untimed down.

In the days afterward, officials admitted the mistake, and the Mid-American Conference suspended eight officials, while the Big 12 suspended two replay officials.

Still, officially, it went down as one of the biggest wins in recent CMU history, and one of the worst losses for Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State went on to win nine of its final 11 games, including a 38-8 victory over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl.

Central Michigan, meanwhile, went on to lose seven of its final 11, including a 55-10 defeat to Tulsa in the Miami Beach Bowl.

I dont think the ncaa gives a sh*t what teams do with their rings. I dont hate it, cause I know how i'd feel, but i do think it's a bit on the dumb side. I wouldnt want to wear it, it would feel wrong. Horrible incorrect calls are a part of the game unfortunately.

It's stupid and I say this because they lost. OKState should've never been in that close of a game with Central freakin Michigan in the first place! Not only that but it was his defense that allowed the hailmary! So maybe the refs screwed up but they didn't screw them out of the game the whole 4 qtrs.

The final score is all that matters. You don't win a game on stats.

I think you missed my point. OK State didn't lose the game on a technicality they lost the game because they were giving up big plays like the one they did at the end. They lost because of no defense and that's not the refs fault.

I think it was a ridiculous thing to put on a ring but I understand the complaint. That was the type of game that should be able to be reviewed and have the result officially changed. If officiated appropriately the game should have ended, that last play should have never existed.

I do agree, OKst. should have just stopped the hail mary pass but it never should have even happened.

Nah, they really didn't lose the game.........................It means nothing to those outside of Stillwater.

How many games in history would be reversed if the losing team got one extra play? That's what happened here. OSU, by rule, won the game.

It was just a moral victory. Should have been a real one, but nope, not an official victory. I remember a few years ago some pitcher was about to get a no-hitter in the 9th. Batter hit a grounder and he was thrown out, but the first base ump called the runner safe. Replay shows it was clearly out, ump later admitted he made a mistake. The result stood. Moral of the story - move on.

maybe if OSU had known the rules and done something about it then...but by the real rule of the game , it is a OSU LOSS....

“NCAA Rules permit instant replay to correct egregious errors, including those involving the game clock (FR 12.3.7). Walt Anderson, Coordinator of Football Officials, acknowledges that the Big 12 replay crew missed an opportunity to stop the game to inform the MAC officiating crew of the misapplication of the intentional grounding penalty as time expired that resulted in the untimed down leading to Central Michigan’s game-winning touchdown in its 30-27 victory over Oklahoma State. Also by Rule 1.1.3.b the result of the game is final and cannot be overturned.”

So does this mean can count last year's OSU loss a win given the categorical officiating debacle?

Sounds good OSU.
