Is Sam coming back with the eligibility option in place?

Who is projected to start next year? Casey Thompson or Hudson Card?

If I was him, I would asked to be moved to TE or H-back. He has no chance of playing QB at the next level.

I am not convinced that the eligibility option is available to Ehlinger. Can someone please point me to a link?

My understanding is that any player is free to skip this year and not have it count towards eligibility. I do not see anywhere where a player can play the whole season and still retain eligibility.

This year doesn’t count towards eligibility for anybody.

I re-read the article on ESPN and it does look that way.

I guess they had to do this to incentivize athletes to not drop out. Now that can have the cake and eat it too...

He'll move along. He has finished school. There is no reason to stick around. He'll give Casey his shot. If Herman returns, next year will be .500 or worse. We will lose a lot of players. This was our year. Herman failed.
We aren’t losing that many players next year. I count 14-15 starters that will be back out of 22 next year.

We lose the whole secondary, overshown, pretty much every junior on defense will declare on top of the obvious seniors on offense.

No way in hell are all those juniors declaring. Are you watching the same secondary I have been this year? There isn’t a single one of them that can play in Sunday’s IMO. Cook, Thompson, Green, Foster and Overshown will all be back. They are day 3 picks at best right now.

How many of them have tried to quit? They are going to bolt at the first opportunity. They don't care. They see Lil Jordan Humphrey as a success. Why would they stick around this sheet show?

And when they do, it will be the death knell for Texas Football. Our opposition will point to all those 5* players going as UDFA's as a reason not to play for Texas. This program is in serious trouble. I can't find anything positive.

If they see Humphrey as a success, I feel very sorry for them.

Overshown is a "project" linebacker. He hasn't shown anything of real value that can't be accomplished by any other D1 linebacker. As far as I can tell, he will be an average OLB next year.

I would rather see them all go and start anew with a new coach and a new secondary, this secondary hasn't done really nothing but spurts of bring good plus all the poison of Stern, they all need to go..Stern pretty much spoke for all of them and already poisoned the well...in fact a lotta team members need to pack up and move on, their gonna be a lotta KFC applications when some of these guys leave, its hard to get into NFL now and more than half couldn't get drafted as of the stance they took against the University...BLM ...etc..NFL don't want that protesting shit, they want players who wanna play for them and nothing else.... I am real big on Sportsmanship, all this Showboating after a TD is getting BS, I heard someone say just " Act like ya been there before" and move on back to the bench, all that sliding into the endzone was like a overturned Clown Car...in Stillwater.

if urban comes, sam stays. if tom's here,... well... i imagine sam feels the weight of the world on his shoulders at times right now

I would have thought the same thing about Jalen Hurts but what do I know. I brought this same question up about Sam a couple weeks ago. The problem you run into is your backup better than Sam from a talent standpoint? You’d hate to piss off the heir apparent if Sam stayed unexpectedly. I know I’d be pissed if Hurts would have been able to stay another year keeping Rattler on the bench.

I am not sure I want Sam back next year. There are no doubts about his heart. The key factor is - what is his ceiling as a QB? It is evident that with Sam, we are not able to leverage the abilities of the skill positions on offense to the fullest. We have not had a dominant receiver or running back evolve in the last 3 years. We really need that. Now, that could be because of the OL or schemes. But, I am not convinced that Sam is a championship-caliber QB. The other factor is - what does the team need next year? Does it need a game manager because our defense is going to dominate (unlikely in the Big XII) or do we need a QB who makes sure we score on most of our drives (more likely)?

I hear you, but I am not sure that's on Sam. I would put that blame squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff.
I hope he comes back. Even if he loses his job to a more capable quarterback, he would certainly be a great influence in the locker room.

duvernay wasn't dominant last year? good grief. i don;t know what your standards are, but other than shipley, who met your standard?

I love the guy, but when was the last time we had a QB that could throw it exactly where he want, exactly when he wanted? IMO accuracy trumps all other QB characteristics.

can he throw it accurately behind the shitshow OL he will have here?

I only saw him play one time, but, based on what I saw, he could line-up in the slot and run with anyone we've got. I left that game thinking he better put on some weight or he wouldn't be able to play QB. That was 2 years and supposedly 30 lbs ago.

I doubt he comes back if Herman is still here. Now, if Texas were to fire Meyer, then Sam may stay. It all depends on what our AD decides and hopefully soon.
