Still waiting for who you think should have been hired to replace Mack Brown and Charlie Strong...

No, but it's best handled by a senior level coach. Preferably a guy with college success and NFL experience.

The coach of the Falcons or the Eagles MM or the one who played against CS last night if I had to pick today

The problem is Mack had 13 years of HC expierence under his belt before he came to Texas. 10 of which was at UNC in a major conference. Neither Strong nor Herman had anywhere near that. Strong had more than Herman but still very little in comparison. I just don’t think they were or are ready for a job like this. I think we should of thought this move out a bit more. I mean there were rumors of Herman to Texas if they decided to move on from Strong after year 2. At that point he hadn’t even completed one year. Just not sure the decssion makers thought this out all the way.

I think TH learned a whole lot about this gig by years end. Although I expected 8 wins this year (including the bowl game), I did see improvement in areas....and regression in a lot of others.
One difference that seems to get overshdowed by our uncanny ability to F-up a wet dream is the fact these boys never rolled over even when getting spanked. Cant say the sme for the past 6-7yrs. We're just a kicker and new OC from being a top 25 team, add an O-line for top 10, add a confident qb to be a playoff contender. Plenty of work to be done, let's start the oc search asap!

I agree that more experience would generally be desirable, but coaching hires are still pretty big crapshoots.

Just considering relatively recent times, how many years of college HC experience did Bob Stoops have before he went to OU and won the conference championship 56% of the time? How about Fisher before FSU? Malzahn before Auburn? Throw in Smart and Riley if you want. Even Meyer only had four years in the MAC and MWC before taking over and dominating at Florida. And Steve Spurrier only had three years at lowly Duke before he went to UF and terrorized the SEC for 12 years. Those are also all very high-pressure jobs, with the exception of Florida at the time Spurrier was taking over. (Add Dabo as another example of a coach who has excelled despite no prior head-coaching experience, though Clemson didn't carry quite the pressure of the other jobs at the time he was hired.)

I wanted Briles before rapegate occurred or Gary Patterson because it kills your competition and both have done more with less and you can't deny that. Imagine what they could do with recruiting and Texas resources. Too late now. Always will wonder what if!

Very true. But how many coordinators get power 5 jobs? Not many. Stppps, Kirby smart, chip kelly, and a few others are the exception rather than the rule. I’d argue that in some cases you’d be better off hiring an assistant more than the hot mod major coach who has Been a HC for a year.

I assume that you're talking about Dan Quinn, Doug Pederson, and Scott Frost? Be realistic. The first two aren't going to leave the NFL for Texas. Frost? Maybe, but when the Texas job was open, he wasn't a name coach being considered by any big time schools. I'm trying to follow your logic. So you're saying that Texas should have pursued these three guys when Mack was fired, and when Strong was fired? o_O

After all the crap you threw at Herman before we played a single down this season because he hadn't done anything, your replacements are 3 guys with a grand total of 7 seasons as a HC, counting the seasons still ongoing? What makes them more prepared?

6-6 going into a bowl game first year. I'll give it time before we start burning UT flags and pissing on TH head shots.

Trap job? $5 million a year. Practically a blank check for anything you want. Can get a decent number of the top talent in Texas without working that hard to do it. Currently low expectations of 7-8 wins.

Yes it trapped Strong into walking away a multi millionaire for setting the program back 10 years.
