It's official......

I would never rejoice when a man loses his job.I want to Thank Charlie for his efforts and best of luck in his future.
If I was getting an 11 million dollar gift to leave I would throw the party myself...not to mention the 15 plus million he has already made. We are not cheering for his firing to punish him. We are happy that Texas can try to move forward and win again. We know with Strong that was NOT going to happen. We all like Strong the man. Not the coach at Texas though.

I think UT is paying off his Louisville contract also....still money worth spent to get rid of.

Charlie Strong is a great man, and he will learn from his mistakes at Texas and become a better coach at his next job. I fully expect him to be coaching somewhere next season. He will likely workout a buyout that saves the University a couple million and he will be free to take a job for about 3 million, maybe he will be the next coach at Houston. It would be an excellent landing spot for him.

I will cheer for Strong against anyone other than my Texas Longhorns. He is a good guy.

Thank you, Coach Strong. It was nice to be rooting for a team where I didn't need to hedge my morality a bit in the name of sports loyalty. It was nice to see student athletes treated as students, and watching our APR climb during your time here. I would have loved it if the W/L rate had matched everything else I thought you brought to The University, and I hope that whatever you do next is steeped success!

To Coach Herman (if the buzz is correct), you have big shoes to fill and, thanks to recruiting and off-the-field actions by your predecessor, expectations to win fast while keeping the program as clean and as upstanding as it has been are (and should be) really, really high. Good luck! I'm not sure you're my first choice, but I'm going to keep rooting for my team no matter what, and I'm going to give whoever is coaching that team all the support and respect.

Perrin's statement to the media after firing Strong:

“Decisions like this are tough to make. The responsibility is not taken lightly. I became friends with Charlie Strong before becoming Athletics Director. I have the utmost personal respect for him. His impact on college athletics and student-athletes should be celebrated. Coach Strong represented The University of Texas with class and dignity, and he demanded our student-athletes do the same by adhering to his system of core values. However, after thorough evaluation, the body of work over three seasons has not shown the improvement we were hoping for. This was an important year for our program to take the next step, and the results simply aren’t there, so we’ve decided to make a change. We appreciate Coach Strong so much, are grateful for all he has done with our program and wish him the best in the future.”

Is he solid enough to be a d-coordinator with Orgeron if Aranda bolts to be with Herman?

If Ed O were to land Strong and kiffen as is coordinators LSU would be scary. I think Strong fits as a HC in a few places but may just want to be a DC a while.

Sad for Charlie only in that I know it has to hurt to not succeed on such a huge stage and he's going to miss his players. Nobody wants to get fired. I'm sure these events will be a motivating factor for him for years to come. Good luck Coach!

I remember being so mad at Red McCombs for opening his mouth about Strong when he was hired, the whole "he'd be a great coordinator, but is not a head coach" thing. It burns me up a little that the guy was right all along. I so wanted Charlie to prove him wrong. Now, I'd like to hear his thoughts on Herman.

No joke. The worst thing about getting fired for most folks is wondering where the money will come from. He doesn't fall into that category. If I was him I would be a little aggravated, a little embarrassed perhaps but I'd get over that shit in the same day. It's really all about the money. He'll get other coaching opportunities but at this point, it's no longer about securing his financial future. Damn I'm jealous.
