It's time to have an uncomfortable Covid conversation

We are all grown ups here.... well, most of us are-- but something has been bothering me since I caught covid in September of last year. I thought I was the only one until about 3 weeks ago when my brother made a comment about it-- and the same thing was happening to him.

So I reached out to several of my close friends-- dudes that wouldn't think I was asking them something crazy.... and most of them were experiencing the same thing.

Before we go further, I've already passed the blindfold test. I can easily identify the smells of spices, and the taste of foods. So my ulfactory system is working perfectly--- in that respect.

But here's the deal-- every sh!t I take, or any time I pass gas-- it smells the same. Every time. It doesn't matter if I eat Thai food or Ceasar salad-- drink sh!tty beer or good beer-- chili burritos or sushi-- every Number 2 smells the same. Every time. I ate whataburger for 3 straight days a last week-- just to see...... still the same. And gentleman, I can smell a Whataburger fart from across the yard.

I've taken pro-biotics-- I've had my buddy in France mail me unpasteurized cheeses and chocolates, I ate a half gallon of ben and Jerry's while pounding down a quarter bottle of 18 year old single malt whiskey--- I was trying to give myself some party mud--- and I did.... but..... still the same.

So my question is-- any of you dudes having the same ...........uh........... issue?

You are putting your olfactory senses through unnecesaary punishment. Probably not covid related. Eat some veggies, man. We want a balanced clob. There are some post covid symptoms that can linger such as respiratory issues and fatigue related which have seemed to have recovered with time.

So why do I know about a dozen people who are experiencing the same thing?

Just to clarify, I meant probably not due to covid, but it is possible. “Usually”, olfactory is more short term which can last a few months. Most common we have seen is fatigue that has lingered. Very difficult to pinpoint. I will try to get more info on this and post later if I find something.

Is it possible that there's another common denominator that could be overriding the changing ingredients? Like a large pecan coffee every morning for example?

Honestly I am pretty noseblind to my own brand anyways unless I dig in to some ice cream. I believe I've aged into lactose intolerance..... it's gets baaaad but ice cream is sooo good.

Long COVID is going to take years to understand.

if you’re exploring wholistic treatments try eating Japanese Natto. Japan has the world’s lowest COVID rate while having high population density.

Nope. I don't drink coffee-- never have. I haven't had a carbonated beverage in 15 years. I drink water-- all day, everyday.

Trust me when I tell you guys-- I have completely experimented with this in damn near every way. In point of fact, I even TRIED to drink coffee one day, just to see if THAT made an impact. No dice.

And this us the worst part-- you know that smell you puss gets when eat asparagus? Or the smell of penicillin when you poop while on antibiotics? It's like that. It's got an "I'm on medication" smell to it.

Very fvcking weird.

P.S.

Now I know you like Pecan coffee.

I see what you're saying-- but I can tell you what everything else smells like with my eyes closed. I know this because I literally stood in front of my spice cabinet and started pulling spice bottles off the rack and siffing them. I think tarragon was the only one I missed.

It's just fvcking weird.

Like suburban white chicks and pumpkin spice.
I've had the expensive stuff and everything on down to walmart generic brand. HEB Texas Pecan hits my buds just right. BRC makes some good blends but most of their stuff makes my heart race like it's crack.

Malt whiskey and Ben and Jerry's?

Now that concerns me.

After having covid, one might have parosmia, a heightened change of smell. For example, things that normally don't smell like rotten eggs, begin to do so. Maybe the fart smell is normal, but parosmia has altered the olfactory system. I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn and read this online.

I had a pharmacy school student do a little research, but didn't find a whole lot. All of the studies were meta analysis which combines many different studies and reviews and tabulates results. In speaking with her, your issue may be related to alterations in post covid microbiome (call it intestinal flora or gut microbiota or whatever), but there is some information that there is an alteration in the microbiome that can take place. No information on fecal odor, but it makes sense. I couldn't open and link the supporting article because it was school of pharmacy subscription. Anyway, there was also this other article that was also a meta analysis about long term Post-Covid Syndrome. I did learn something new. The study showed that women and people that had a more serious Covid infection were more likely to have long term Post Covid Syndrome when compared to men or mild/moderate Covid infx. I'll attach that article.

I'm going to France and Switzerland for Xmas and new years and I'm going to eat so much unpasteurized dairy products that hopefully my bacteria in my intestines is changed.
Went to Switzerland back in Mid May. Food is lacking severely. Views are outstanding though enjoy!

The food was lacking where? Usually there's French and Italian num nums everywhere. Where were you? I'm doing a couple days in Bern then Geneva- then on to Lyon.

Uh.......I try not to spend a massive amount of time smelling my own shite and I'm definitely not make notes about it.

The closer you get to Italy the food is better but we traveled to a few towns in Switzerland and the food isn't good. I mean if you like sandwiches, pizza, chicken wings, etc then you'll be ok. We stayed in Itay across the boarder 1 night and had the best food the whole trip. Went to Bellagio on Lake Como and had a great time. I'll send you a list of places we went to in Switzerland...we traveled by train the whole trip. I assume you are going skiing.

France outside of Paris is awesome. I'm not a Paris fan.
