It's shaping up to be a long offseason on the Forty Acres

WACO, Texas — With Texas hovering one game above .500 following a 24-10 road loss to 14th-ranked Baylor on Saturday, head coach Tom Herman is facing an offseason where change appears to be inevitable. The Longhorns are 6-5 overall, 4-4 in the Big 12 and could potentially enter bowl season needing a victory to ensure a winning record depending on how the regular-season finale with Texas Tech on Black Friday goes.

Guess someone wants to keep his job! If he gets fired then thats the end of his coaching career as he knows it except for a shitty University and more to come like Strong...

Such a disappointing year in sports all around for me.
Longhorns----suck
Spurs----suck
Texans----mediocre at best
Astros----caught red handed & will surely be returning to suck once the punishment begins.

Fellas, I'm taking a break from sports to let my mind & body heal from the stress my teams have given me. Maybe I'M the curse. Lol

I’m right along with you fresh.

Dude-- your luck with sports teams shouldn't be a thing. It's sports. Yes we all want a winner, but at the end of the day, it's sports. Did your tough as nails ass think that way about IED's? Surely not. Yes, it sticks in all of our collective craw that we are regressing as a program--- but social media is what skews the big money donors, be it ever so slightly, toward what is best for the program. I can assure you that big cigars may not always lurk on websites like this-- but they have people in their employment that do. They hear the scuttlebutt. They feel the tide-- they may live in ivory towers but their minions keep an eye on us cave dwellers.
This is the new forefront. This is where sh!t gets done. The internet now officially rules the world, and college football.

Add the Cowboys to the list too. I'm tired of my teams being the laughingstock of everyone else while their teams win.
It sure sounds like a certain redheaded HC will be unemployed at the end of this season. Think he could handle cfb?
Willing to trade for OBrian? We'll throw in all of the management for free too. Hell, we'll pay Jerry to take them.

It will be amazing but not a big surprise if the ones in charge decide to give Herman another year essentially to dig the hole a little deeper. If Herman stays another year, it could take us, with the correct coaching hire longer, to dig the University out of the hole. If this occurs, they will be thinking about what the buy out will cost. My question is, if they don't make the change, what will the recovery and return to quality football cost the University? In reality it is about money but we all lose either way. The only difference is the time frame and not making the change now will cost more financially in the long run. I just wish that for once to immediately bring about change that the fans just don't show up and 60,000 or more empty seats would send a strong message.

I think that JJ will finally can Garrett after the season. He should have been fired about five years ago though. Word is that if Dallas were to fire Garrett that the Giants would hire him immediately. Yawn.

I hear you about O'Brien. He's just awful. That, and the clown circus of the whole Texans organization. They are so poorly run. IMO they will never win anything of significance until they have new ownership.

Giants hiring Garrett would be the best thing that could happen to the Cowboys.

Well, you left off aggy. Remember, they're in secsecsec and Jimbo. If losing to LSU, they finish 7-5, thanks to wins over juggernauts Lamar, TX State, UTSA and Arkie.

I get your point but a bad season for aggy isn't dissapointing for me, quite the opposite really.

Now what's actually disappointing is the fact that aggy is having their standard crappy season yet they'll probably have a better record than us.
Now THAT will send ya to a lonesome dive bar for shots of cheap house whisky.

Jason Garrett couldn’t coach his way out of a wet paper sack. I’ve been a die hard Cowboys fan my whole life. There is no reason they shouldn’t have at least 2 Super Bowls in the last 10 years. The team this year is so stacked with talent it’s not even funny. Maybe Jerry will grow some balls this year and finally let the red headed dumbass go. He just does not know how to manage a game.

Agree. The Cowboys are loaded. This is the most talented team they've had in many years and to have a 6-5 record at this point is inexcusable. Garrett has GOT to go after the season!

I think if they lose this Thursday to Buffalo they should just go ahead and do it then. I know the division title is up for grabs still and I’m not big on firing a coach mid season but he has had so many chances. I really thought coming into this year that this was the year they at least make it to the conference title game.
That game yesterday was just so disappointing in all aspects. How do you not tell your return man to move up to the 20 when they are kicking to you in a gusty wind. There are too many things about yesterday’s game I can’t even begin to list them. I’m ready for a change and I’m really curious as to who you think would be a good fit?

I'm not in favor of firing Garrett before the season is over. He should be let go on 12/30 though. As far as replacement candidates?

Greg Roman
Lincoln Riley
Kris Richard
Urban Meyer
Josh McDaniels
Sean Payton

The overall mindset of Jerry is still part of the problem. After the Patriots game he said special teams is 100% coaching and anyone who can play a position should be a great special teams player.

So shortly after losing to a team that invests year after year in specialists, with a blocked punt being the big difference in the game, his attititude is that all his guys should do it just as well, but it's all the coach's fault.

I agree that Jerry is still part of the problem. However, he has turned over quite a bit of the personnel decisions/draft to Stephen Jones over the last several years, and as a result, things have gotten much better from a talent standpoint. Also, the Cowboys have used a lot of restraint in not signing overpriced free agents like they did in years past. The Cowboys are better than they used to be, but still not good enough to compete for a Super Bowl. This team has Super Bowl talent, but IMO Garrett is the governor that holds them back. So frustrating!

This team has just as much talent as that team in the 90’s and there is no doubt in my mind about that. The only Jerry has is not firing Jason 5 years ago. He has pretty much handed the reins to Stephen. Last year was the first draft class in awhile that they missed on besides the Pollard pick. They have been really well in the draft the last 5-6 years. The window is closing really quickly with Dak and Amari due big contracts this year. I’m afraid this might have been their best chance to do something this year.

just as much talent as the 90s teams? clearly you're either drunk or you're 22 and just don't know any better. alright let's lay this out for ya...

aikman>>>>> dak. aikman is a legend. those that criticize him criticize stats. aikman didn't care about stats; aikman cared about winning. he COULD and DID make the throws when he needed to.

emmitt = elliott. i don't actually believe this, but i'm throwing you a bone

witten= novacek. another i don't actually believe, but maybe in his prime, witten was better.

irvin/harper >>> amari, dez, beasley or whoever you wanna roll out there from the past few years

both o-lines are really good when they're rolling, but the allen/williams/newton/stepnoski one is legendary, so old>>> current.

d-lines of the 90s rotated 9 dudes at their peak, led by lett/maryland/haley. i'm not even justifying this one.

linebackers for both are really good.

secondary for the old guys was much better than the current crew.

so, yeah... just stop

So if the Cowboys hire Riley, then who does OU hire? Do they go after Urban?

sadly.....whoever OU hires will be better than whoever we hire.....except for that blip that was DKR...this has always been true.

Lincoln Riley in contact with Jerry.

If so it ain't about the Cowboys job. Riley is not done at the collegiate level, and is smart enough not to take on the Cowboys - or more importantly - Jerrah as his first NFL gig. I am convinced a Jones led team will not win another championship until his deal with the devil has been paid in full and he has assumed room temperature...sorry to get so dark.

I have been watching the Dallas Cowboys for the better part of 50 years and I’m entitled to my own opinion. I would definitely give the edge to the 90’s teams defense against this year but the offense is just as talented as those 90’s teams. Jason Garrett is holding this team back and if you cannot tell that then you are either high or drunk.

Early 90s Boys didn’t have to worry about a cap

It doesn't really matter who thinks which team is more talented/90's, or now. Bottom line is, this current Cowboys team has enough talent to win a Super Bowl, and there is no excuse for them at least playing in the NFC championship game. I want to see at least one more Cowboys Super Bowl championship before my time on earth is done!
