(Just like B. Snyder) Augie MUST be entitled to retire on his own terms.

Bullsh*t. Snyder worked his magic on the worst DI-A football program ever. Without Snyder, KSU football might have ceased to exist altogether. He definitely should be able to retire on his own terms. Augie took over what was already the winningest college baseball program of all time when he came here. This analogy does not work.

Augie had a great run in the 2000s, but he is putting the finishing touches on the program's worst five-season stretch in the 70-season history of the NCAA baseball tournament and one of our two or three worst seasons ever. If he won't leave on his own, he needs to be shown the door.

The tradeoff for having a job that is both high paying and fun/fulfilling (e.g. college baseball coach) is a lack of job security. If Augie were making $70K a year, or working at a less desirable location, I would be inclined to give him more slack.

Don't know about that CEO analogy, there are some real dogs out there making major bucks, but I do agree it's time for Augie to move on.

BTW, with his retirement he should be able to call a taxi in time of need.

I probably should have put the word "should" instead of "would"....you are right.

I think the admins are hesitant to get into another Mack Brown/Strong situation. Sometimes change brings on a whole different set of problems. Just ask Nebraska fans about Post Solich. I think Augie has earned the right to go out on his terms, within reason, of course, just my opinion.

I don't understand this concept coming from fans. If someone builds something great for your team, why do you think they have a right to tear it down?

What exactly is special about the Mack Brown/Strong situation that is necessary to avoid? I get that admins are don't want to fire long term coaches because they are generally all good friends, but from a fans standpoint I don't understand how that mentality comes into play.

Also it's college baseball, so any parallels you draw to the Texas football program you need to divide by about 1000 to get a realistic comparison. It won't go unnoticed here, but you can make sweeping changes to the baseball program an it will barely register with national sports media.

Mehhhh, I'm not sure that's totally true. While texas is a blue blood football job for sure- when it comes to baseball, respectively, we ARE THE job. Yes we have some football hardware for sure- but baseball is just in an another league.

That's not my point, college baseball doesn't move the sports needle for sports news. It doesn't matter where Texas is in relation to other college baseball programs because none of them really register. Our football program registers. Decisions with the football program make national headlines. Decisions with the baseball program will fall largely on deaf ears. There is no chance however Augie is handled that it gets the level of attention and scrutiny of the football program.

I don't think you can point to Augie and say the game has passed him up like you can a football coach. Sure Augie's had a bad year but nothing that can't be rectified. Top kids still come to Texas to play for him.

I think that is the problem, top kids do still come to Texas but the results are bad. This would be like Urban Meyer going 3-8 for 3 years straight after top 5 recruiting classes. He wouldn't stick around and not sure why Augie gets the privilege. Build him a statue on the concourse and find a new coach.

Is it a coaching issue or execution issue? I know they can go hand in hand but it's not like Augie is coaching them to not hit etc. it may be just a bad run of luck etc. right now. It's not like football where a team is just running a bad system that cannot realistically compete.

I think it is a recruiting and coaching issue. Back when the NCAA deadened the bats and things like that small ball came back to the forefront and that is when Augie and the Longhorns went to the CWS. Now that the NCAA has changed the baseball and the long ball and big innings are back, Augie has not changed either how he recruits or the way he coaches. The end result is a team that is anemic on offense in a time when teams are scoring more and more runs. Do you change the system to fit the kids or do you find kids to fit the system? Either way, it isn't working for Augie and hasn't for something like 3 years. It isn't the fact that UT hasn't won a conference championship, it is that in that time frame, the Longhorns haven't been competitive on a conference level, much less a national level. All of that while teams in your conference and teams in your state are reaching new heights and are becoming household names for baseball fans.

No coach in any sport coaches their players to not execute. What part of our baseball team looks like we are running a good system that can compete?
