AUSTIN – Longhorn Network, ESPN and FOX have released kickoff times for six of Texas’ games in the 2017 season, including four home (Maryland, San Jose State, Kansas and Texas Tech) and two road (USC and Iowa State) contests.
Two home games will be broadcast on Longhorn Network, including Texas’ first-ever meeting with the San Jose State Spartans, which will air on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 p.m. CT. The other will be a Big 12 Conference match-up with Kansas on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. CT. LHN is the exclusive national distributor of that game, except within the state of Kansas and the Kansas City DMA, where the game also will be aired live via Jayhawk TV.
Also on ESPN networks, Texas will take to the road against Iowa State to open Big 12 play in a Thursday night match-up on Sept. 28 in Ames, Iowa. That game will kick at either 6:30 or 7 p.m. CT on ESPN.
The other three games will air on FOX networks. Texas opens the season at home with the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m. CT on FS1. The Longhorns will later travel to Los Angeles to face the USC Trojans for the first time since the 2005 National Championship Game. That game will kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 7:30 p.m. CT on FOX. Texas will conclude the regular season against Texas Tech on Friday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. CT, also on FOX.
Longhorn Network, the 24-hour network devoted to The University of Texas, enters its seventh season with exclusively televised Texas football games. Since its launch in 2011, LHN has televised 14 UT football contests entering 2017. This year’s telecasts will once again be supplemented by Texas GameDay, a two-hour pregame show, and Texas GameDay Final, an hour-long postgame show.
Texas leads the all-time series with Kansas (13-3), Iowa State (12-2) and Texas Tech (50-16). It will be the second time the Longhorns and Cyclones have met on a Thursday with the other coming on Oct. 3, 2013, when Texas won in Ames, 31-30. The contest against the Red Raiders will be the first between the schools to be played on a Friday, and the third time they have met around the Thanksgiving holiday after playing on the day itself in 2013 and 2015.
The game against Maryland will be the first meeting between the schools in 39 years. Texas leads the all-time series, 3-0, including wins in the 1978 Sun Bowl, in College Park, Md., in 1960, and in Austin in 1959.
Outside of meeting in the Rose Bowl for the 2005 National Championship, the trip to Los Angeles will be the first road game for the Longhorns against the Trojans in 50 years. USC won games in 1967 and 1955 in Los Angeles, and in 1966 and 1956 in Austin to hold a 4-1 series lead.
