Few recruits in the state of Texas are harder to figure out than Kyle Porter.

The Katy running back is one of the top prospects in the Lone Star State, but he doesn't exactly enjoy the media spotlight. In fact, Porter pretty much hates all the attention that comes with being a high-profile recruit. If he had his way, people would just leave him alone and let him make his decision with little to no fanfare.

Truth be told, Porter isn't really even that fond of communicating with college coaches, and he refrained from having a lot of dialogue with recruiters during most of his senior season. Porter just wants to do his own research, check out his recently revealed three finalists and then come to a decision with the help of his family. That day will be here soon enough.

Porter will take three official visits to the only programs still under consideration. He'll visit TCU January 15, Texas January 22 and Arkansas January 29.

Key quotes: Porter's thoughts on his three finalists:

TCU - "I would fit well in their offensive scheme. They're a very explosive offense and they have a pretty balanced running attack. People don't know that but they actually do. That's why they're in there."

Texas - "I know that's a good place for running backs. And this new offensive coordinator they have, he has a good balance. He actually has a little bit more run than they do pass so it's a pretty good balance. That's a good fit too."

Arkansas - "They just always have the offensive line. They have like the top offensive line in the country. They call it running back U. It's a great fit for any type of running back. You can do well in that system."

Not afraid of competition: Arkansas recently won a head-to-head recruiting battle against Texas when the Razorbacks secured a commitment from running back Devwah Whaley. Porter is more focused on his own decision than he is on depth charts, and he said he's simply looking for the best overall fit for himself.

"Competition is competition. You can't really worry about that either way," Porter is said. "You can only do what you can control."

Clean slate: Porter said he's trying to go into his three visits with a completely open mind. He doesn't want to have any preconceived notions that might affect his decision, and there isn't one school that has the lead head into the tour of official visits.

"I want to go into these visits as unbiased as possible to each school, not worry about anything," Porter said. "I want to just go in like I'm ignorant of anything going on at the school, that way I can approach them all in the same basis.

"These will be huge. This will be my determining factor.

"I want to do it (have a decision) really fast, but I have to be intelligent about it. I have to go on my visits and then break it down from there. But I do really want to get it done."

Post-visit plans: Porter said after he returns from his last visit - to Arkansas - he'll sit down with his family and go over the pros and cons of each school. He'll then come to a pretty quick decision and likely will make an announcement at his school with some of his friends.

"My parents, they just really listen to me. But it's all on me. I'm going to these, see how I fit and go from there," Porter said. "I'm really only going to have three days before I have to sign after I go on all these visits. So I'm pretty pressed on time, but I'll be all right."
