What a game.
Isidore Newman trailed Belton 32-14 at the half. In what looked like a blowout, Arch Manning took over the third quarter and Newman pulled out a gusty 54-52 win.
It was an awesome performance by Manning, who threw 3 (at least, I haven't looked at the official stats) touchdowns and ran for another. He put the team on his back and delivered in a massive way.
Couple of notes from talking to the 5-star after the game...
-- Manning remains fully bought in with Steve Sarkisian and Texas. He believes the Longhorns are going to do big things and that Sark is the man to lead that.
-- He noted that he was attracted to doing something different at Texas, rather than going to Alabama or Georgia. It is obvious that he sees a ton of potential in Texas, and he wants to be right of the center of that. More performances like tonight, and that will certainly be the case.
"I want to go start something new and be a part of something special," Manning said.
-- Will Randle relayed the same message as Manning. He thinks this 2023 class will do something special. Randle said he can sense that everybody is pulling in the right direction and wants to accomplish big things. Randle thinks that Alabama game woke a lot of people up.
-- Most interestingly ... Manning is focused on recruiting others to the 2023 class. He singled out five-star DB Javien Toviano, Rivals100 WR Jalen Hale, Rivals100 SDE Damon Wilson, and Texas A&M commit Anthony Hill as guys that he has his eyes on.
He said "we aren't done with Anthony Hill." Manning is not hiding the Longhorns' heated pursuit of the 5-star linebacker. Between Sark going to Hill's game and Manning actively recruiting him, there could be something brewing there..
