From the Office of the Chief of Police:

Our thoughts and prayers are with our Brothers and Sisters serving in law enforcement in the community of Dallas.

Acts of hatred and violence like this one sickens everyone decent and law abiding. It tears at the very fabric that binds our country. It affects every citizen regardless of where they live, work, play, or attends school. Giving license to those who are angry to loot, burn, and kill has got to stop!

Police officers are leaving the profession in droves. Just last week there was a story about how so many Dallas police officers were leaving the department for higher pay. I think most are leaving to go to communities that are safer. Not many police officers want to have to deal every day with what our major cities have turned into. Many are afraid if they do their jobs as trained, they will be prosecuted, ridiculed, terminated, and abandoned. There are not many professions that have the fear of going to prison or losing your own life by making a split second decision wrong.

And way too many forget that everyone in a blue uniform wearing a badge are human beings that are flawed and not perfect, much like everyone else.

Police chiefs all across the country are looking to retire early to escape the onslaught of the media driven by some incredibly misinformed and misguided national leaders. Police feel no one has their back anymore. This is why serving in the Villages is so wonderful. We do have support, encouragement, and residents who have our back.

Please join with us in sending our condolences to the community of Dallas and the rest of our country. An attack on law enforcement officers is an attack on us all.
