Been living in Birmingham since 2002 so feel I know the SEC fairly well. Most actually do like Texas historically and appreciate our history, but I’m definitely picking up a sense of self-protection mode from everyone this week in regards to Texas coming in and winning the SEC in our first year. Feeling like Tenn, Bama, FLa even the smaller schools are pushing for Georgia to “protect the brand” of the SEC. It’s not often Texas is the new kid but there is not yet a full embrace that we are “SEC” yet—probably by them and us.
Just watched a tiny bit of Finebaum and the sentiment seems to echo what I’ve just written. Can’t wait for Saturday. Taking my son to his first Longhorn game which isn’t bad for his introduction to all things Longhorn.
