When ESPN paid us all those millions, we were supposed to put together a nice sports related package to help increase our brand. It was supposed to be a network dedicated to all things sports and longhorns (present and past) and the greatest of our athletic department. Last night and now, at this very moment, we aired programs that had NOTHING to do with Longhorns or sports.

Last night an award show was aired that took place on November 18th 2018 at the LBJ library where the LBJ school of politics gave their INAUGURAL AWARD for politics or some such to Hillary Clinton followed by an hour long sit down discussion with her. Right now Joe Biden is on the longhorn network receiving an award and giving a lecture. Is he talking about how great it is to be a Longhorn? What about a break down of our athletics and facilities? How about telling stories about watching longhorn football as a kid?

Nope. It's Biden telling me, on MY fvcking network, what a fvck up I am because I'm a white male that went to UT. This is absolutely unacceptable and before anyone else starts in on the political BS I would feel EXACTLY the same way if this were a politician I support.

This station is a SPORTS station. Not a fvcking political station. Holy fvcking sh!t he's now talking about the second ammendment. This is some Walt Disney bullshit.

Honestly, it was only a matter of time. ESPN 1&2 used to be my default programming when it was relax time. I'm as political as the next guy but sometimes we just want to get away from it all. Sports provided that break from real-life politics.
For whatever reason, that all changed when Obama was elected. Not saying it was his fault but that's the timeframe when the division really polarized and non-political programming began openly choosing sides.
There went my one get away.

Sports was the one place where we can all come together for a couple hours despite our world views. There are many, MANY fellow horn fans that my wife and I have become friends with through the years at games but we know very few of them hold the same beliefs as us. We don't care about that and don't make it a point of conversation with them because it is completely irrelevant in the world of sports. Well, at least it should be.
Remember that MTV was the place to watch music videos before it dove into social & political programming. Sadly, it looks like LHN is following it's parent company down the same hole.
Firestick for the win brother. What you want, when you want it and non of the fluff.

When I was a student, the joke was that the LBJ library would eventually be Lyndon's tomb. That he would be stuffed like Lenin in a glass casket. Did you know that 13 of 22 Secret Service agents asked to rescind their oath when LBJ was president? Normally when this happens, the agent is reassigned to, say, Fargo. Couldn't do it, too many to replace.

I'm not blaming it on Obama -- but this post expresses my sentiments exactly. There are 10 other cable "news" shows to spout opinions. Now ESPN spends half its air time on "social" issues. Leave me and my sports alone!

And I thought going by the thread title I was to so a video of the Fonz jumping a water tank on his motorcycle....

I just called espn/lhn and voiced my displeasure.

Nueces - I thought you were putting up a fake number, so I called it. Surprise - didn't even get put on hold! I too voiced my displeasure, and I was told my comments would be forwarded to programming. I think Clob's problem has been solved!

I agree wholeheartedly. LHN should be about Longhorn athletics and nothing else. Politics has no place on LHN. I'm wondering if ESPN is influencing this programing since they are so very outwardly liberally biased?

they've broadcast different events/speakers that take place at UT for at least a couple years now. i'm pretty sure they showcase films by film students too. i think the thing was on LHN simply because the speaker was at UT. if ben shapiro was speaking there, they would a) need security and b) if they managed to get him in the building to speak, would probably broadcast that as well. i dislike hillary and biden, but i think this is the broadcast norm at LHN

And I don't give a shot if he is or Bush or Shapiro or whomever-- the LONGHORN NETWORK is supposed to be about the athletic department.
Not the school of government.
Not the school of film.
Not for chemistry projects.

It's for fvcking longhorn sports period.

I could watch that McCoy to Shipley domination of Bradford 100 MORE times and not get tired of it.

Seriously - since they have so much time to fill - I wish they would show more old games. It seems like the VY Rose Bowl is on three times a week. Specifically -- the first live college game I went to was UT SMU at the Cotton Bowl in 1973(?) when Rosey Leaks ran for 342. My memory is not of an 80 yard run. But 35 runs of 10 yards straight up the gut. Total domination at the LOS. Would like to see if my mind is playing tricks.

LHN doesn't own much content. Only the stuff broadcast on ABC/ESPN. I know they broadcast student productions like short films and documentaries from the RTF department. I also know they broadcast the LBJ school speaker series so maybe if you are unhappy with who they are inviting you could contact the deans office. If you do decide to contact ESPN please be nice. Its probably an intern or some hourly employee with no power over programming answering the phone.

She said she would record the message and deliver the tape to the program content people.

My mentioning the election of Obama was only a time reference as to when I really noticed ESPN going very outwardly political & social. However I felt about him politically, I definitely do not blame him for what private companies decided to do. Just a reference.

When is the contract up? It needs to be put to sleep, that is all I can say, there just isn't enough programming and for some reason the NCAA refuses to allow LHN to air high school games is stupid. I wonder if that also includes non-sanctioned things like 7 on 7 or AAU? Either way, without better programming and more programming, the LHN is nothing but a boat anchor for the brand.

2031. I don't have cable but I checked the program guide. They have very little content. Coaches shows, reruns lots of reruns, some live sports, something called Longhorns Arts and Culture and student shorts films. There are tons of great professors. Why not film them.

It was determined at the very beginning by the NCAA, that if LHN showed HS football games, 7 on 7, AAU, etc., that it would give Texas an unfair recruiting advantage. That's why this never happened and was not allowed.

I thought it would help the women’s programs the most. It theoretically provides more visibility to parents back in hometowns since women’s sports don’t really get significant tv coverage. It really hasn’t worked out that way. I hardly watch women’s sports but do keep tabs on their overall status. Speaking of, the firing of Connie Clark paid off in just one season. Long live LHN. It may suck at times, but it is nice to know it is there when you need it. We at least get more baseball than most.

Which is dumb logic by the NCAA. They should also regulate stadium size, locker room amenities, weight room technology, indoor practice facilities, program budgets, etc., etc... These are also ‘unfair advantages’ by that logic.

LHN is great for Texas fans. I can watch all the home baseball, basketball, volleyball, etc. games that we couldn't before. We are very lucky to have it. I agree there is not much material when games aren't being played.

As far as showing HS games, it's bs that the NCAA regulates that. An unfair advantage is only the reason they came up with because too many schools whined to them. What large school doesn't have an unfair advantage over smaller ones already? As long as the players are not getting paid from it the NCAA should stay out of the way. It's no different than having nice facilities to impress recruits. Some schools have the resources and some don't.

You beat me to it. I was typing basically the same thing.

I don't watch it often, but I do like the fact that softball games and baseball games are aired. I really enjoy watching softball and if it weren't for LHN, I wouldn't get many opportunities to watch.
Speaking of softball, have any of you been able to go catch a game? This team is fun to watch.

I've watched a few games on LHN.

Its a big money deal, they offered,Texas needed it and winning teams will draw more viewers, Losing teams do not and other ways to increase advertising charges are sought.

Good advice on the "be nice" suggestion, SS, and you will get a better response with honey in lieu of vinegar.
