At the end of their season last year I saw Oklahoma lose their composure in one game, and show up flat in their bowl game two games that I've seen
in the Stoops era. I wondered how much longer the Stoops era was going to last. Then they made their coaching changes.

You know looking back they came into the season having to replace 5 out of 6 ol and that was the biggest reason for their loss to Texas, those kids had not gotten in sync yet. And because of that we got countless, sacks, tfl, and stopped their running game. They won big in their next four games but those were against the four worst teams in the Big XII.

So they came into the Baylor game not having proved they beat any good teams. But as I said in another thread they were well coached, and they had a great game plan. They were lean, mean and hungry. Their ol was in sync now. Baylor wasn't able to get off the field when it mattered most new because BM and company wouldn't let them. They had so many third down conversions.

And in the third quarter Samaje Perrine broke off one of those long td runs like he did last year. He got more in the last two games and like I said above that was because of their ol coming together. Then there was their receivers. There's three receivers in the Big XXI who will be first round draft picks next spring. But Josh Doctson got hurt. However Sterling Shepard wasn't and he had by far the best games of the three. Just one big play after another. The last two years SS didn't play against Baylor and I saw the difference when he did play this year. The other receivers played well but as far as I'm concerned SS is by far their best receiver. And for my money he is their best player. Oklahoma lost three of their last four last year and SS didn't pay in any of them. Se what I mean?

The biggest change was in their secondary with Zack Sanchez at one corner and Jordan Thomas at the other cb spot. They had the best cb do in the Big XII and one of the best in the country. Charles Tapper was moved to his best spot in their dl. Charles Walker is an up and comer. How many sacks did tthey have 40? Yes, I still think Eric Stryker is overrated. He had his best sack numbers against teams with weak ol's. He didn't have any against a good ol like Baylor. But Mike Stoops said he was the fastest lb he had ever coached. And because it was MS that said it the media acted like it was gospel. My goodness, Fowler got so carried away in the OSU game you would have thought he was the greatest player of all time.

And finally there's Baker Mayfield. I wasn't impressed with him at TT. But it makes s big difference when you qb team with a good offense. Combine that with an NFL ready receiver and two NFL ready rb's and an improvisational qb like BM you have an offense that's almost impossible to stop. Improvisational, that's the word I would use to describe BM. He reminds of JM in that regard.

If the playoffs were named today Oklahoma would play Bama in the first round. If there's one defense that could match up well against Oklahoma's defense it's Bama's. But I have to give Oklahoma credit, they played great when it mattered most and that's why their the champs this year.

OUTHEREINCALI - In case you haven't heard OU is a hated rival of Texas. I can't believe you got a response from anyone but the one you got is spot on correct. I think you opened up the wrong message board.

A message to both of you.. This is from the fb fan point of view. I have real respect for college fb and a love for the Big XII which is my reason for posting this. I wrote about the to 4 teams in the Big XII from a fb point of view. I like doing things like this and I don't mind if people don't reply.

Good write up out. And other than Mayfield you saw the two biggest improvements that led to the turnaround, especially the freshmen Offensive tackles and the corner backs. Sanchez got tested, and lost a few, to OSU last weekend but J. Thomas was lights out. And they all come back next year.
