I'm probably in the minority, but I think Mack Brown would be a very good AD at Texas.
Put me in that same category. Was one of his best attributes as a head coach, how to schmooze your way around. We both probably are.
Put my name on that list as well.I'm probably in the minority, but I think Mack Brown would be a very good AD at Texas.
I think he’d be fine in some ways, but I’m not sure being a great coach makes one a great AD or entitles one to the job. I mean there is a reason that there aren’t many coaches (current or former who are ADs. Like I said I think he can keep the trains moving, donors coming in and kinda keep them in check, but it’s probably time to get the long term AD in here. That’s not Mack Brown. Mack would make sense if we were looking for a interim type deal. Not sure that is what we’re lookijg for.Mack Brown gave Texas fans more success than any other coach except Darryl Royal. He deserves a shot at the AD job.
Perhaps, our Mack Brown curse of losing will be lifted.
No way. The AD position at a major program is so much more than just schmoozing big donors these days. Mack’s skill set is suited to being an AD in the 1970s or earlier, perhaps. He has basically none of the conpetencies or expertise that we need from the person who will guide us through what will be the most tumultuous phase in the modern history of college athletics over the next decade or so. Give me someone like Chris del Conte, Greg Byrne, or Joe Castiglione.
Mack’s the type of hire an institutionally stupid and bumbling athletics program like USC would make for an AD. Of course, Texas institutionally bumbles with the very best of them. If you’re content to see us continue to underachieve as badly as anyone this side of aggy year after year, given our unsurpassed built-in advantages, hiring Mack as the AD is exactly the kind of move we should make. It’s probably the one everyone expects Texas to make. Who can blame them? Our track record of institutional decision-making over the last half-century is a history of with way more than its fair share, of laziness, shortsightedness, and stupidity. Hiring Mack would make perfect sense for us.
To me that’s more up his alley. Seeing though that he works for ESPN that might be disqualifying. Since ESPN has the rights to the CFP it could be seen as a conflict. I mean let’s not act like ESPN doesn’t have an interest in who makes it and doesn’t.I can't see Mack Brown as an ad. What i can see him being is being on the playoff committee. I've felt this way for awhile. He'd be a perfect fit for that committee. So what if he's on tv? I mean some of the people that were on that committee were a joke, they had no business being on that committee. In fact being on tv he keeps up with every team in the country. He's a perfect consensus builder.
He'd work his guts out for you though.Mack as UT AD? 'THAT JUST SCARES ME TO DEATH '
I've thought long and hard about this, being careful to look at every angle and perspective regarding a hire like this before giving my opinion.
Condi Rice would be a really smart hire imoI've thought long and hard about this, being careful to look at every angle and perspective regarding a hire like this before giving my opinion.
I see it going one of two ways. It will either be a smashing success, or a complete and total tragedy. No in between. Mack is a politician and a great one. He learned the ropes from DeLoss and that was during our most profitable years. He's got the glad handing, elbow rubbing, back patting down to a science.
But then there's the business side of things. This is where I worry.
Condoleeza rice would be my pick. But it looks like she may be the next NFL commissioner.
That would be a strong choice as well. He also oversaw the complete make over of TCU’s basketball arena. That expierence will probably be useful for UT for a long term ADI'm hearing that TCU AD Chris Del Conte is a serious candidate.
