I know, I know, Malik is too far behind. But, on one hand we have a likeable guy as QB that should be separating based on experience but seems to lack a little "it factor". On the other hand, we have a 1.000 rated QB that isn't showing the results of studying the playbook. And then we have this 3rd guy that seems be very impressive. Is he really going to do worse than the first two? If there is any chance he could get it done as many other freshmen QBs have in the past, shouldn't we give him more of a chance? If nothing else, that might light a fire under Mr. 1.000's ass.

I would say take all these reports with a grain of salt. If Malik was so impressive then why didn’t he play in the scrimmage? Charles Wright got all of the 3rd team reps. Something isn’t adding up to me. I know Sark has had most practices locked down tighter than Fort Knox so I don’t think anybody is actually getting a true read on what is actually going on.

I have a feeling he's low key going to hit the portal and informed Sark of his intentions. No references, just my opinion. He didn't even get 3rd scraps.

So as it sits can a player transfer right now and play immediately elsewhere? I think that’s the way I understand it for 2022 but the NCAA is trying to amend the rules to make it have to fall within certain time periods to transfer going forward. To hell with the damn people wanting unlimited transfers.

How about compensation for the team a player transfers from? It’s not really a school’s fault if the player decides to leave. Seems like there should be some kind of reimbursement of some sort. I don’t know for sure but between school, lodging athletics, NIL, a single average player may be getting benefits in excess of $200,000 a year? Maybe more?

No they are not eligible to play this year the way I understand it. May 1st is the cutoff to transfer to a new school and gain immediate eligibility, unless there was a coaching change. There is some rules to the portal.

That said I don’t see why a kid would transfer out before the season starts and miss out on those reps and coaching. There’s something else to the story I bet.

Yeah so under that scenario it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to transfer out right now imo.

Malik has swag and I think he thinks he can win this job given a little time. For that reason, I don't see an immediate transfer. The scenario is this, I think he is likely going to become the No. 2 QB fairly quickly (within a year) and that gives him a chance to become number 1 before Arch is competing for the job. I wouldn't sell the man short.

That's been my exact thoughts. I don't think he's going anywhere. If Quinn wins the job then Card likely transfers out after this year. Then Murphy is the back up and an injury away from getting his shot. I think that's enough for him to stick around.

Injuries are a big factor. Every top program needs to have at least 3 capable qb’s these days. I’m sure he’s absorbing the playbook and learning every day, which is extremely valuable. To just toss all that corporate knowledge away to transfer and start all over seems like a waste.

You can take this any way you want but 30 years ago we signed a 5* qb named Shea Morenz. We couldn't wait for him to start. He was also supposed to be a great baseball player.

The next year we sign a 4* qb out of Beaumont named James Brown. He went to the spring game and was not impressed by Shea Morenz. He says I can beat him out.

Morenz fanned the flames when he big timed Brown. At the end of the '94 season the coaches benched Morenz made Brown the starter and the rest is history.

I believe that was around the same time Clob was playing. Perhaps he can weigh in with his take on that QB battle. There was another big-armed QB a few years later - Richard Walton, who looked very impressive until injuries slowed him down. Funny story on Walton, he's a Radiologist in San Antonio and he actually treated my wife many years ago. One of the most genuine and kind people you would ever meet.

Morenz was a "can't miss" 5-star QB out of San Angelo Central in 1992. He never really panned out at Texas. I remember filming James Brown at Beaumont Westbrook, where he was a senior in 1992. I was a scout for Max Emfinger of Blue Chips. Brown was a phenomenal athlete and could beat you with both his arm and feet.

Brown redshirted his freshman year at Texas and replaced Morenz in the 1994 season and did very well. The highlight of his career was beating Nebraska in 1996 in the inaugural Big 12 CG in St. Louis on the infamous "roll left" where he hit Derek Lewis, who ran down the sideline for a 61-yard gain to the Nebraska 10-yard line. The Longhorns sealed the win and Big 12 title when Priest Holmes ran for a touchdown on the next play.

And unlike Shea Morenz, James Brown treated Richard Walton with respect.

Does anyone on here know whatever happened to Shea Morenz?

The whole point is don't put your eggs in one basket.
