Matt Wells Fired by TTU

That's surprising that they would fire him right now. Not sure what's to be gained at this point. Briles would crush it a Tech if they hired him.
They want to go after Jeff Traylor before the line starts at his door.

Traylor has one good year so far under his belt. Tech could get him at a discount though. Briles would have some stink on him, but don't think Tech wouldn't love to crush Bsylor.
They don't like him. The fanbase does not like him. He's a decent coach.
There is a rumor that the B1G is going to take 2 teams from the B12. It will be Kansas and one team from Texas. There are all kinds of speculation. If they take a private school like TCU, SMU, or even Houston then they are trying to get into Texas for recruiting. If they take Tech, they want the larger fanbase for eyeballs.
Tech wants ........ Sonny Dykes. Spikes son. He's the head coach at SMU for those that don't know. The horse trading is getting fun. TCU will likely want Sonny Dykes as well if Fatterson decides to retire.

Did not see this one coming. But he wasn't going to make it anyway. But Sonny played at TT and he's been a good oc. This is his audition to be their next coach.
I don't have anything to back it up with but I just got a call that Traylor was contacted but he's not talking about it. This guy called him and he confirmed he's been called but said he was focused on his team now and would worry about that later. Tech is a dumpster fire since Leach.
I went to Tech for awhile and I loved it out there, but big time recruits hate the wind and the next big town is hours away. Leach got them there with video game numbers.
My money would be on Briles building them back, but are the west texans ready to go all in?

Very surprised they hired him in the first place. At least on the surface, didn’t seem to be a cultural match since he’d been out west since 2010. Briles - warts and all - would kill it in Lubbock.
One thing I know is that the baggage Briles has would be easier to overcome and make it happen in west Texas compared to anywhere else. I am not saying it would be easy, but it sure would be more do-able. Nonetheless, I think the target is Traylor

TT has always been a hard sale. Lubbock is a decent college town 250,000 people now and it's a nice looking campus. The best kept secret for TX beauty is Palo Duro Canyon and it's only an hour away. They're spending the money on facilities and they have a solid athletic program. But like you said its isolated.
The more I think about it, I think they are test driving Cumbie. Dykes is doing well at SMU with the ou and Texas transfers where it looks like a nice pipeline (when things don’t work out in the bigs). I don’t think he would do well at Tech. He failed at Cal and he is just a different person and era as was Spike when he did a not too bad of a job. I think it is Cumbie or Trayler
Needless to say I don't have any inside info about what's going on in Lubbock but I have seen an impressive list. Jeff Lebby is on here and he's Art Briles son in law. Can you imagine what would happen if they beat OK?
I think ou will have their way with Tech. If Cumbie manages to go even 50% with their remaining schedule, I will be impressed. Tough going. They have ou, Iowa St, Okie St, and Baylor
