Not the most popular of UT sports but without a doubt the most dominate. They kicked off the NCAA championships in Austin by setting a record in the 4x200 Free Style relay.

Cal is our biggest competition and will look to unseat us after being the runner up the past 4 years. Texas is going for 5 NCAA championships in a row.

Dynasty and well deserved. Coach is HOF’er.
I went down for the conference championship. Awesome.

It's a shame that our swim and diving teams don't get the hype they deserve. The men's team is a legit dynasty that has been the most dominant of any sport in NCAA history outside of John Wooden's UCLA basketball teams in the 60's and 70's. If they continue what they did today for the next two days, they bring home a 5th straight National title.

I have tremendous respect for swimmers as athletes. My daughter swims for Arkansas and I remember playing around in the pool when she was younger and her telling me that I would never be able to finish a 200 IM without proper training. I always thought of myself as a decent athlete when I was younger and I felt like I should be able to easily finish a 200 IM. I said "screw it...if all I had to do was finish a 200 IM, how hard could that really be?" Well, I tried it and I did finish but I damn near drowned after the first 150. I could no longer feel my legs and I literally needed two guys to pull me out of the water because I had no strength to pull myself up. I would NOT recommend trying to swim a 200 IM if you're old and out of shape.

I've got much much respect for elite swimmers. Those are some incredible athletes.

Outside of the olympics, people just don't watch swimming. I've never been to a meet, how fan friendly are they? Seems like they last several days and it takes all day for pre-lims and then finals hours later.

Totally agree about respecting the athletes. Swimming is incredibly challenging.

The meets in general are definitely not fan friendly. Similar to a track meet....they're just way too long. The final day is the best time to go to a meet since those are the crucial final events worth the most points. The relays are the most exciting events on the last day and oftentimes determine the ultimate champion. The UT swim center has a great atmosphere - especially with our guys on the verge of another title. It's definitely worth going on the final day.

The other thing to be proud of is that our swim team has consistently represented the university extremely well. High character athletes who are also exceptional students who have never drawn any negative attention to the university or the program. It's truly special what they've put together this past decade.

5 Championships and 5 runner ups in the last 11 years (the off year was a 5th place finish). Eddie Reese has had some good stretches but none as good as this. 14 Championships and 11 2nd place finishes in 37 years

25 years in 1st or 2nd? Thats like, ridick man.

We trail by 50 with the last day of events coming up. I don't know a lot about swimming or how Cal and Texas stack up but I'm assuming that's too tall a hill to climb. We are pretty safe in 2nd, with the 3rd place team trailing us by 50 points as well.

Don’t know much either, but the standings after day three last year were Indiana 325, Texas 306, Cal 291.5, and the final standings were Texas 449, Cal 437.5, Indiana 422.

So some pretty big swings are possible, but given that we didn’t gain on Cal in the day four events last year, we probably shouldn’t get our hopes up this year.

4 in a row is pretty cool. Im ok if we can't pull it out this time.

The final events will be aired on ESPN 3 starting at 6pm tonight.

The 400 free relays are worth a ton of points. It's the final event of the meet. We came in seeded 1st in that event but we need some of our individual events to place and earn points to peck away at their lead and put us in position to win it all with the final relay. However, Cal has a good relay team as well and they may only need to get a 3rd to 5th place finish depending on the points they earn from other individual events.

That seems to be the challenge, even if we win events, we don't make up much ground.

We just went 1st and 2nd in the 200 m backstroke but Cal went 3rd and 5th so we scored 37 pts and they scored 30.

You're right. Cal is in good position. Weird things happen a lot in swimming. DQ or a false start can change everything. Our diver driver is also in good position to earn big points while Cal has no divers that will earn points.

Dude that Anna Hopkin is a cutie. If I were twenty years younger-------

Cal is running away with it. Up 528 to 406 with two events left. No idea what diving could be worth, but that gap looks insurmountable.

Windle, the diver, was great. Brought home 46 points with 2 6th place finishes and the win in the platform, all while nursing a shoulder injury. Only a sophomore, nice to know he'll be doing his thing for several more years.

Looks like Cal has it wrapped up unless they DQ in the final relays. 2nd place is certainly not what we wanted but still another incredible season for the Horns. We'll be loaded next year and should be a strong favorite again.

Tell me about it!! You should see her in person! Absolute smoke show. She's from Great Britain and will represent the UK in the 2020 Olympics. She's truly a sweet and extremely polite, respectful young lady. Very funny too. I asked her at a team function where BBQ was being served if she liked brisket...her reply to my wife and I was that she didn't like to talk about UK politics. I though that was really funny.

I don't doubt a word you said. Again, if I were 20 years younger-__ and of course knew what I know now.
